Dirty Dancing anniversary
It’s the 30th anniversary of Dirty Dancing, can you believe it? Three decades since Baby was put in a corner and ‘a watermelon moment’ became a thing. You could go into the woods to dance on a log, get down to a lake to practice that lift, or you could book up for one of these celebratory nights…
Retro songs and alfresco screenings
On Sat 5 Aug, the opening weekend of Chichester International Film Festival, Vintage-style singer Dawn Gracie will get you in retro mood before an open air screening of Sixties-set Dirty Dancing at Priory Park. Advance tickets are £8. The previous day (Fri 4 Aug) you can watch the film on the beach at Brighton Big Screen. Tickets are from £4 – you can upgrade to a double bed to lounge on and access to the VIP bar for £25 for two.
Film plus 80s dinner and disco
The Picture House Uckfield is showing the film on Fri 11 Aug followed by an 80s party (that being the decade the film was released rather than when it was set) with retro food in the restaurant and a disco. Film tickets are £9.50 or £15 with a Prosecco. Restaurant tables are now fully booked but you can still enjoy a drink after the film.
Dirty Dancing the musical
See all that steamy dancing live on stage at The Hawth, Crawley between 14 and 19 Aug in Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage – a musical featuring 35 hit songs and someone doing the lift every night! Several nights have limited availability already, so get on it. Tickets are from £36.50.
Dirty Dancing the gig
Not to be confused with the musical above, An Evening of Dirty Dancing, the hit touring production with song and dances sequences from the film is coming to Hastings’ White Rock Theatre on 9 Sept. Bop along to Big Girls Don’t Cry, Hey Baby, Wipeout, Do You Love Me? and many more. Tickets are £23.
