Muddy Winners’ Drinks

We had a heritage setting for a brand new crop of Muddy Award winners to celebrate their success this week.

Chapel Barn’s Alicia and Great British Wine Tours’ Danny and the new caravan bar ready for action

Lovely 750-year-old Chapel Barn at Bolney near Haywards Heath has hosted weddings, wine tastings and all manner of pop-up parties and events since it opened as a venue last year following an ambitious refurbishment. On Tuesday it welcomed our 2017 winners who were served with prosecco from the site’s retro glamping caravan and tucked into Sussex cheeses, brownies and chocolate strawberries in the lofty barn itself.

After an epic stretch of sunshine the weather decided to break for the occasion – putting paid to wandering the lawns outside or popping down for a look at the lake. But there were giggles as we attempted a group photo – aided by our supposedly off-duty photographer winner Julia Claxton opening one side of the barn to maximise natural light and coaxing everyone into school photo-style rows before diving into the shot herself.

Thanks a lot to everyone who came along and to all our winners, finalists and voters for your enthusiasm. “We won!” I hear some customers have been saying, so involved have they felt in their favourite businesses’ bid for the top slot.

Yours truly

If you want to check out Chapel Barn for yourself, you don’t have to wait for a party or a wedding invite, there are plenty of opportunities including regular Sunday wine tastings and picnic lunches, a pop-up curry masterclass with Bedlam Beers coming up in July and a Mad Hatter’s gin & tea party in August, while affiliated Great British Wine Tours runs tasting trips around Sussex.

Here’s a reminder of all our 2017 Muddy Stilettos, Sussex winners. Do check them and our runners up out for yourself. They clearly have a lot of fans already!
