Record Store Day in Sussex
Girl put your records on… but before that, if you love music you’ll be wanting to hot foot it down to your nearest indie shop for Record Store Day this Sat 22 April. It’s the 10th anniversary of the event, which sees special limited releases, giveaways and in-store gigs. Here are some of the Sussex specialists taking part…

Jolliffes coffee shop a few doors down will be opening from 5.30am to serve keen queuers teas, coffees and snacks. The first 20 people in the queue will get a free Fred Perry tote bag. Then at 8.am Holly Macve will kick off proceedings with an acoustic set, followed by ‘challenging’ folk artist Robb Johnson. A raffle and free beers wrap the sales side of things up at 6.00pm. Gig tickets, signed records, test pressings, t-shirts, vouchers, goody bags and more are up for grabs. While they last, you can also pick up goody bags stuffed with promos and freebies from local businesses when you make your purchases. Rounding up the day at 6.30 pm local heroes British Sea Power will do an acoustic set and sign their new album Let The Dancers Inherit The Party and their Record Store Day 7″.

Official Record Store Day vinyl releases will be available from 8.00am at this shop in the Little Chelsea area and don’t worry if that sounds a bit early for a Saturday – there’s a licensed cafe on site where you can celebrate your special purchase. From noon onwards drop in for free live performances from My Life Story, Maz O’Connor, ᴍｓｔｈｎ, Harry Pane, Stephanie Goodman, Jon Slade, Ella Flame and theNighthawks plus DJs Patrick Forge and Launette.

Another Eastbourne record shop hosting in-store gigs. Pete Astor (ex Weather Prophets and Loft) will be live from noon, Hal Taylor & The Real Quartet from 1.00 and 25ThC from the Jellyfunk Allstars will be DJ’ing 45’s from 3.00-5.00pm. There will also be free tea, coffee and cakes for those queuing for special releases in the morning and in store during the day.

This Lewes shop which specialises in folk, country and Americana will be open from 8.00am for all the exclusive vinyl releases and will have live music in store between noon and 5.00pm with, in order of appearance: Jason McNiff, Worry Dolls, RPMs, Emily Barker and Noble Jacks. Plus, limited edition Noble Jacks Harveys Beer will be on sale.
