Black Rabbit, Arundel
Muddy says: A scenic riverside setting and quirky decor make this a great find, just outside popular Arundel, and within sight of the famous castle
Hidden in a fantastic riverside location just outside Arundel, Black Rabbit is the perfect spot for a balmy summer’s day, or to hole up for a roast in winter.
There are outdoor tables right up to a bend in the river where you look out onto reed beds and Arundel Castle perched beyond.
Inside, decorative touches include an upturned rowing boat that featured in one of the Harry Potter films and a quotation on a chimney breast that references the Black Rabbit from Watership Down.
Fish of the day, a vegetarian shepherd’s pie and an award winning steak and Tanglefoot pie are among menu options. On Sundays there’s a choice of roasts.
The pub is close to the WWT Wetland centre and the perfect stop before or after exploring the historic town itself. For more rural pursuits, take the three mile riverside walk detailed on the pub’s website.
