Music for Aardvarks
Muddy says: Musical sessions for children – yawn! Not anymore… With its soundtrack of rock, pop, folk and blues, Music for Aardvarks will really get your child grooving
Launched in New York City in 1997, Music for Aardvarks takes a different approach to musical sessions for children. By doing away with the traditional twee songs about farmyard animals and winding the bobbin up (what is this song even about?), the company uses rock ‘n’ roll, blues, indie and folk music to encourage children to develop their musical ability at an early age.
Your six month- to five-year-old child won’t be told to find the nearest instrument and bash it until their ears bleed either (praise be); sessions are based on well-thought out musical activities such as singing, dancing, story-telling and structured jamming sessions (how cool!).
Music for Aardvarks launched in Brighton in 2006 and has been going great guns (and roses?) ever since. Run by piano teacher, professional violinist and mother-of-two Emily Hilson, it’s sure to make your child a musical prodigy in no time… and save you wincing through more nursery rhyme fare.
Sessions run Monday to Friday at different locations around Brighton and Hove.
