The Ivy opens in Sussex

It’s been one of the mostly hotly anticipated additions to the Brighton foodie scene and a it opened this week for breakfast. lunch, dinner and cocktails. Here are some pics from the preview party of The Ivy in the Lanes to whet your appetite.

It’s all very bright and colourful and spacious and the heritage space of the Old Post Office has been well used. I also liked the nods towards the famous original Ivy in London with its distinctive stained glass windows.

The art work is eye popping – I particularly love these giant ceiling squids.

The central bar has real wow0factor and the good news is, so long as there is space, you can stop in for a drink here even if you’re not dining. There are plenty of seats up at the counter.

If you are dining you’ll be able to get comfy on miles of banquet seating. There’s also a private dining room for hire.

Minus the tables!

Fatboy Slim was the surprise DJ at the launch party but though you may not get him on the decks, if you’re there on a weekend you will get someone spinning tunes – this is the only Ivy Collection restaurant outside London to have its own DJ booth!

Friday and Saturday nights are now booked up for ages (hey, I did warn you when booking opened!) but you’ll have better luck at other times. It’s also worth knowing the set menus are really good value.

Oh and if you see creme brulee doughnuts on the main menu at any point don’t miss them – these were among of the party food and my, they are heavenly!
