Thameside cabana dining
"At the coppa, coppa cabana" yes, really - or to be precise the riverside cabanas Coppa Club, right on the Thames!
Where did the Muddy editors have their summer meet-up this year? “At the coppa, coppa cabana” yes, really – or to be precise the riverside cabanas at Coppa Club at Tower Hill. Just checkout that view!
There are four Coppa Clubs actually (Oxford St, St Paul’s, Tower Bridge and Sonning, Berkshire – where it’s within bra pinging distance of George Clooney’s house!), all offer the same, ethos of affordable, accessible food in stylish urban surroundings.
The Tower Bridge club has supercool views of Tower Bridge behind it, so you’re basically right on the river, all under dripping faux wisteria, some funky downlighters and outdoor heaters. There are even plastic curtains in case the weather gets the better of you. In the winter there are funky igloo cabanas in their place.
As many of us 17 Muddy editors who could make it gathered at the Coppa Club with the intention of eating and drinking our fill, so we started with cocktails and nibbles, then mains, desserts, more cocktails, more cocktails and then inside for wine (just to shock you) and a change of scene, and what a scene! Banquettes, Art Deco-style this and that, oversized brass lighting and cosy little alcoves for drunken escapades.
I thought at first glance it might prove a case of style over substance but the food was very good.
The position of Coppa Club right on the promenade towards Tower Bridge makes it big, brash, and glamorous. Having said that, there’s plenty of space and you’d be fine to take kids and large family parties here too, so if you’re thinking of going to the Tower of London en masse, or looking for a fun place to meet for cocktails with the girls, book in, drink up, and nosh out.
Just remember, if you want a cabana, make sure you book ahead.
