Property Flirt in Wisborough Green

Because who doesn't love a nosy around somebody else's house? This dreamy three-bed has a unique history, but can you guess the price?

We’ll admit to a vested interest in this one. This gorgeous cottage was once part of the village school which Muddy Sussex editor Cathy attended when she was knee-high to a grasshopper. It wasn’t quite as glam back then, she has fond memories of being given the day off school when the outside toilets froze over. These days she likes to dawdle past it in summer to admire the breathtaking courtyard garden.

Wisborough Green is one of the more desirable Sussex villages and named after its enormous village green, which forms a central and focal point for cricket, football, gatherings, celebrations and the general day-to-day of village life. It’s also home to two pubs, the Cricketers Arms on the green and the Bat & Ball up the road at Newpound. Also a stone’s throw away is Fishers Farm Park, perfect for entertaining the kids all year round.

This is the first time the property has been on the market since it was converted. The exterior still has the look of a Victorian school, but the stunning walled garden softens it somewhat.

Inside it’s character features galore – look at those windows. As befits a former school, it’s well-lit and very spacious. The open-plan living area makes it really flexible too.

It’s a generous three-bed, with fitted wardrobes throughout to save space.

The kitchen is generous too, if a bit busy, but there’s plenty of room for all your mod cons. There are two bathrooms, essential for a busy family.

But to our discerning eye it’s the walled courtyard garden that makes this truly special. It has to be seen to be fully appreciated but take our word for it, it’s one of the best the village has to offer.

So how much do you reckon then? Put your best guess in the comments below before checking on the Penfolds website – no cheating now!

A lovely country house and no real garden to speak of with no peace and quiet due to access road and house so close by. Time spent in the garden on a summer’s day is priceless, particularly with children/grandchildren but not in a yard like this. Pass irrespective of what the price is.

It really is a beautiful village house, lots of space and wonderful location in this popular village. Call me if you’d like more information.

Birdhouses?! Grrr. Should be new houses.

I can’t agree with the comment from Caroline, as it seems the birdhouses reflect what a traditional village house would be, in proportion to the surrounding style. What I hate is big properties for just one family, whereas this site has provided homes for many.
The old school house is beautifully done. Price is guess £650k?

You’re close with that guess, Alyson 😉

Don’t like those horrible new builds taking up what must have been the playground. How they are packed in! The usual developer greed prevails; they couldn’t allow a decent-sized garden with the property
