Brighton Harbour Hotel, Brighton
Bang on the seafront, this stylish hotel has a quirky basement spa and is a top spot for afternoon tea, dinner and cocktails.
In a prime spot opposite the seafront and a stone’s throw from the Palace Pier, Brighton Harbour Hotel has a boutiquey feel that belies its 79 rooms.
And what rooms they are – fresh and seaside-slanted without veering to kitsch, most with views of the beach, some on two sides. Nespresso machines and complimentary decanters of sherry and gin are a particularly nice touch.
Not that there aren’t diversions downstairs, with the trendy HarBar serving up cocktails, and respected dining in the Jetty restaurant. For a special occasion you can hire the private dining room. In fact, the hotel can cater for a full-on wedding. Afternoon teas are also a speciality and combine well with a spot of indulgence in the hotel’s atmospheric spa.
The spa is found in the heritage basement, set under brick arches and open to non-residents as well as guests. Besides the ESPA treatment rooms there’s a pool (with the odd cheeky inflatable duck or palm tree), a sauna, steam room and two large wooden-sided Scandinavian hot tubs. You can even hire a private grotto with butler service!
