This gorgeous and historic village pub with rooms is part of the Buckhurst Estate, owned by the same family since the 16th Century. It’s known far and wide as the estate that’s home to the 100 Acre Wood from the Winnie the Pooh and it’s the perfect spot for a weekend away or family break.

Organically-reared meat and game from the Estate appears on the pub menu, including a Buckhurst Bar Steak and popular sausages made to Lord De La Warr’s favourite recipe. Roasts are offered on Sundays and the wider menu includes fish, oysters and Sussex cheeses. Eat inside or outside, or in the garden room with retractable roof.

Nine ensuite bedrooms with nice touches like robes and Nespresso machines are available above the pub and in a separate cottage. One room has an adjoining lounge and the cottage can be rented as a whole if you bag it early.

Weddings and country sports are offered on the wider Buckhurst Estate. AA Milne’s home village of Hartfield and Groombridge Place are all nearby.
