Once seen, never forgotten. This jaw-dropping beachside cafe is from the mind of award-winning architect Thomas Heatherwick, who created it to be both a ‘prospect and a refuge’, welcoming and impressive, but also cosy whatever the weather. We think it’s safe to say ‘mission accomplished’.

The stunning white interior and movement in the walls give off a warm cave-like feel and the floor-to-ceiling windows allow for sea views that are beautiful in sunshine and dramatic in the rain. There are blankets available for dining outside on cooler days, an impressive wine list and activities to keep little ones quiet over lunch.

Situated at Littehampton, one of the most charming Sussex beaches with good stretches of sand and host of entertainment and activities, it’s a perfect family location or base for a staycay-style day at the beach.

The menu offers creative takes on classic seaside dishes but with affordable prices and in a relaxed, yet beautiful, setting. Bursting with seaside favourites like locally caught fish, fish bisque and the classic fish and chips. As well as Ox cheek burger, mussels, cured salmon, mac and cheese, chicken live pate, as well as vegetarian options. Cooking is also inspired by favourites from beach holidays abroad – the salt and pepper squid with chilli is the most popular dish on the menu.  There is also a strong bias towards sustainability and using every ingredient and left over possible to make sauces and soups.

New for 2022, the café has a smoker on site with plans to start selling smoked salmon, and you can also take home some of their scrummy fish bisque.

Don’t fancy eating in? Grab a takeaway from the kiosk and head to the beach to tuck in. Or sit out on the decking and admire the views. There’s plenty of special offers throughout the seasons, including Fish & Fizz at the weekends, movie nights and more. You can also hire the whole venue for that special event or celebration.
