Hanningtons Estate, Brighton

The heart of Brighton's uber hip indie shopping district featuring luxe, ethical and sustainable local, national and global brands

Credit cards at the ready! This new cultural quarter in the heart of Brighton is groaning with hip indie brands as well as High Street retailers that fit in with the ethical, sustainable and individual vibe.

Put it this way, uber-cool Cornish surf brand Finisterre was one of the first in. Yep, it’s that desirable a location.

The estate itself sits on a North Street site that once housed Hanningtons Department Store, affectionately known as ‘The Harrods of Brighton.’ The store itself may have gone but the site remains one of the most sought-after shopping destinations in the city.

For fashion, as well as Finisterre there’s Rohan clothing, luxe designer accessories from Sophie Darling and Abi-K, shoes at Kurt Geiger and curated fave Oliver Bonas. The latter is also a great stop for luxury homewares, as is Habitat, The White Company and good old Flying Tiger for those gotta-have-it bits and pieces you just didn’t know you needed but somehow, you do.

After all that you’ll need a break, so relax with a hi-tech Covid secure massage at POD, then pick up the perfect customised lippy at The Lip Lab.

Worked up an appetite? Head to Riddle & Finns for fresh seafood and champers, grab a coffee and vegan snack from The Plant Room, scoff an ice cream from Brass Monkeys or Cloud Nine, or a treat from Hotel Chocolat. This is Brighton after all, so indy record shop Cult Hero has an outpost here, as does vegan fast food joint The Vurger.
