The Hawthorns Retirement Village
Muddy says: if you’ve a loved-one seeking a retirement home, check out the smart, hotel-like feel and pioneering rental model at The Hawthorns.
The Hawthorns in Eastbourne is among a new breed of retirement villages. It has a chintz-free style and Hospitality Assured accreditation – a quality standard for customer service used by hotels.
With its pioneering model, residents rent rather than buy and there’s a notice period of just 28 days should they wish to move on. They can even have a trial beforehand, checking in for a month’s stay with no obligation.
Retirees (average age 85) chose from studio, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments with kitchenettes, or two bedroom bungalows with private gardens and full kitchens.
Food is all-inclusive, with wine served with the three-course meal at lunchtimes and the likes of fillet of hake with prawn thermidor sauce on the menu.
There’s a cinema room, library, snooker table and a social games room and activities vary from laughter yoga to bingo to IT classes to party nights and day trips.
The town centre and seafront are just a 15 minute walk away, or can be reached even sooner by bus or minibus shuttle.
