Heist Food Market, St Leonards-on-Sea
A bustling indoor street food market with a dizzying array of good food and drink options, plus sunny courtyard for soaking up the sun.
You can’t overexaggerate the excitement of wandering into a really good street food market. Sizzling sounds, sumptuous smells, the hustle and bustle of a hungry crowd, and the thrill of wondering what exactly you’ll go for.
It’s exactly like that at Heist, the super-cool, family-and-dog-friendly indoor street food market in St Leonards-on-Sea. A one-of-a-kind in the area, it almost feels better suited to a trendy part of London. The food offerings stretch from Japanese (Arigato), tacos (The Clam), high brow hot dogs (Wild Dogz), and just a rotating selection of global flavours at Home Ground Kitchen, among others.
Plus, a stellar selection of drinks. You can get your hands on locally-roasted coffee from Bolthole Coffee, craft beer from local brewery The Three Legs, and natural, organic wines from wine bar and shop Loire De Da. On weekend evenings, pop-up cocktail bar Wermut serves all things vermouth, including an almighty line-up of Negronis. (You know where to find us, then.)
Heist is open every day but Sunday from 8am for coffees and snacks, though the food stalls only get cracking at midday. Drinks are served until 11pm on weekdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. On Sundays, the coffees start at 9am and the food stalls serve brunch and lunch menus from 11am until 6pm. There’s also a chill Sunday DJ, to get you vibing with your boozy brunch — the vibe is particularly good at the sun-trap courtyard round the back on hot days.
Fancy a proper sit-down? Sibling business and swanky seafood restaurant Boatyard is based inside the market and offers full table-service. You can also head down the road to Farmyard, for a full trendy menu of fish, meat, and plant-based options.
