Old Whyly, East Hoathly, Sussex
This elegant antique-filled home close to Glyndebourne is a truly special Sussex B&B with a secluded pool and optional three-course dinners
Old Whyly is a Grade II listed Georgian Manor house that doubles as an elegant B&B, with optional formal three-course dinners available. It is the antique-filled family home of Sarah Burgoyne, where guests benefit from her passion for cooking, particularly classical French cuisine.
Close to Lewes and just minutes from Glyndebourne (book well ahead) and Charleston House, Old Whyly is also well placed for day trips to Brighton, Eastbourne and a host of National Trust properties, gardens and the Bluebell Railway.
There are four traditionally furnished guest bedrooms – one double and three more that can be made up as doubles or twins. Two of the bedrooms have en-suites, the others have private bathrooms a few steps away.
Garden and pool
There is a small lake beside the house and hundreds of tulips and daffodils appear around the grounds in spring. Soon after, the pergolas and pool house are covered in wisteria.
In summer, tea can be taken on the terrace and guests have use of the heated outdoor pool and loungers – secluded by an old wall. A tennis court set in an orchard is also made available.
Old Whyly can be rented out in its entirety and special meal arrangements made with Sarah.
The B&B is dog friendly and children’s meals are available on request.
