Ryde House, Petworth
A bright, pretty restored Regency villa that comfortably sleeps six on the edge of the South Downs national park.
Right, stop what you’re doing and listen up — we’ve found the perfect holiday home. It’s an entirely gorgeous Grade II listed Regency villa, done up with plenty of natural light and calm, clean colours, and it’s right in the heart of the South Downs. Stunning natural location? Check. Yet it’s also sat in the well-heeled and wildly pretty market town of Petworth, which means: buzzy eateries and charming shops, also check!
With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and large living spaces, it comfortably sleeps six and could be ideal for parties or family gatherings. The positively picturesque Shaker-style kitchen (just look at that dresser!) comes prepped with a Nespresso coffee machine, toaster, kettle, fridge-freezer and dishwasher. On nothing else, Muddy is firm on this point: it’s not a holiday if you’re washing dishes. Plus, the cupboards come well-stocked with goodies from the artisanal local deli and grocery shop The Hungry Guest. Perfect for whipping up a cosy supper to eat in the pretty dining room, or out on the sunny, private patio garden — or you could say sod off to any kind of labour and order a food hamper and a bottle of wine instead, or even just toddle on over to the rather lovely E Street Bar and Grill.
And during the days? Plenty to do in this charming part of Sussex. More walks and cycle routes than you could possibly tackle through the South Downs; a knockout stately home to visit; and world-class art exhibitions on display at Newlands House Gallery; to name but a few. All part of the excellent Petworth Places family.
