Sheffield Park and Garden, Uckfield
A horticultural work of art based around four gorgeous lakes, set in acres of historic parkland and woodland.
For a grand day out at a ‘horticultural work of art’ – look no further. This fantastic National Trust site is set in more than 250 acres of parkland, full of wildlife and big skies. And because it’s National Trust, you know it’s going to be a good ‘un for all the family.
The gardens themselves, Grade I listed no less, are based around four lakes with paths circulating the glades and wooded areas surrounding. With influences through centuries of landscape design including Capability Brown and Humphrey Repton, the gardens and surrounding land is steeped in history.
They’re also visually stunning no matter what time of year you visit. Spring is an explosion of colour and fragrance with native bluebells and daffodils joined by rhododendrons and azaleas. The mirror-like lakes reflect the gorgeous colours of summer and autumn, and in winter all is misty and atmospheric. The spectacular Pulham Falls run between midday and 1pm every Tuesday and Friday and are a stunning sight.
There’s also a natural play trail, onsite gift shop, cafe, takeaway kiosk and BBQ. Events including nature trails, Easter egg hunts and other family activities run throughout the year.
