The Curlew, Bodiam
Deep in the picturesque East Sussex countryside, the land of castles and kings, lies this former coaching inn run by a top Chef to Watch, serving up sumptuous sharing dishes in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere.
Not even notorious food critic Grace Dent, of The Guardian, could fault this warm, relaxed restaurant from the team behind The Small Holding just across the border in Kent, brothers Will and Matt Devlin.
Seasonal, locally-sourced, unique and delicious menu? Check. Comforting and welcoming atmosphere? Outstanding wine list? Yup. Worth the drive? Abso-blimmin-lutely.
Named the Good Food Guide’s Chef to Watch 2020, Will trained under Gordon Ramsay and has poured his passion for food and its ability to bring people together into The Curlew. His hard work has already been rewarded, as the restaurant was given a Michelin Plate this year.
Expect rustic, relaxed modern British dining and long wooden tables full of sharing platters everybody can pile into and enjoy. Food is served tapas-style as and when it’s ready, and you’re encouraged to order more of whatever you like. An extensive drinks list features local sparkling wines, spirits and aperitifs.
The perfect choice for an unhurried lunch or dinner with friends and family, either inside the tactile, neutrally-toned inn itself or outside on the terrace.
