The White Hart, South Harting
This Sussex/Hants border pub and inn is stacked to the roof with original features, delicious food, cosy rooms and the South Downs to explore on its doorstep.
Right on the West Sussex/Hants border, near the town of Petersfield, is The White Hart. Located in the tiny village of South Harting at the foot of the imposing Harting Down, it’s also within easy reach of Chichester and Midhurst, making it the ideal spot for a South Downs jaunt.
This historic pub is full of wooden beams, roaring fires and other old school characteristics, with a good dash of sleek modernity thrown in for good measure.
The food here is eclectic without being too ‘out there’, with country pub faves such as roast rump of lamb featuring alongside Thai style mussels. They also do some cracking sharers such as the Ramblers Board, which requires only a hearty appetite for good food rather than full hiking attire to enjoy.
If you want to make a few days of it, you can choose to stay in one of the pub’s rooms complete with wooden feature walls, antler chandeliers and even a few rustic handmade bunk beds in the family room.
So, whether you fancy a restorative G&T after scaling the local countryside or need a cosy nook to hunker down in with a glass of red, you’ll be able to find a little spot to do just that here.
