The talented locals behind The Indie Store – part 2!

In the second of our two-parter, we meet the rest of the brilliant makers, designers and producers behind The Indie Store and find out what makes them special. Go and say hello - they're local, you know!


Ash & Plumb was created out of a desire to honour naturally sustainable materials crafting unique and functional works that breathe life into the living spaces they inhabit. In an increasingly mass-produced culture, design duo Barnaby and Dru choose to walk a different path; paying tribute to traditional craft in a modern context. Both have diverse backgrounds – Barnaby has worked in men’s fashion, the food industry, and as a mountain bike mechanic and trail building, and Dru has a background in fashion, interiors, and tech start-ups. They work with locally reclaimed, sustainably sourced woods aiming to honour the life of the tree through sculptural forms and homewares. As they so eloquently put it, ‘we consider ourselves editors, not creators, of nature’s finest work.’



Rosie Rose, Chichester’s newest and freshest boutique, was launched by owner Daniel and his team in early 2020 – a challenging year to kick off an indy retail business! The boutique has already proved a hit, with its range of one-of-a-kind pieces sourced from around the world, from handcrafted Indian furniture to luxe knitwear, interiors and much more. A business with a heart, the boutique has devoted 100% of profits from sales of its exclusive fashion collection through February to local charity Stonepillow.



A true family affair and one of the oldest vineyards in England, Bolney Wine Estate was founded more than five decades ago when founders Janet and Rodney planted up the first set of vines. Today their daughter Sam Linter heads up Bolney, producing award-winning still and sparkling wines along with her team. Bolney is a true destination in itself, in fact it was recently voted among the top 10% of destinations worldwide by Trip Advisor users – a tough bunch to please! But to those who know this calm and peaceful oasis in the glorious Sussex countryside featuring the gorgeous Eighteen Acre Cafe which overlooks the ripening vines, it’s no surprise. The shop sells artisan local produce along with award-winning wines.



A classically-trained chef/restaurateur, Steven was the youngest ever winner of MasterChef: The Professionals when he scooped the crown in 2013. He launched etch by Steven Edwards, offering tasting experiences from five to nine courses. Since it opened, etch has won 3 AA rosettes, a Michelin plate and Sussex Food & Drink Best Newcomer in 2018 – phew! It was ranked 16th in the Harden’s UK restaurant guide in 2019 and voted Best Breakthrough runner up in the GQ Food and Drink Awards. In March 2020, Steven opened the Steven Edwards Riverhouse, in Richmond, London – an à la carte restaurant that celebrates an ever-evolving menu showcasing local and British produce.



Founders Nick and Alison established Albourne Estate as a husband and wife team in 2010. Alison’s career began in multi-national marketing, but both the politics and the pressure of juggling work and a young family drove her to consider a more creative, fulfilling and balanced path.She studied viticulture and winemaking at Plumpton College while her daughters were of pre-school age. She finds making wine fascinating, and running the award-winning vineyard and winery is involving, fun (at times!), extremely hard work, nerve-wracking, stressful and challenging.



Goodwood is England’s greatest sporting estate. Seat of the Dukes of Richmond for over three centuries, Goodwood hosts three of the largest events in the social and sporting calendar: the Festival of Speed, the Qatar Goodwood Festival and Goodwood Revival. Guests can also experience two championship golf courses, the very best shooting, exhilarating driving experiences and the chance to arrive by air into Goodwood’s Aerodrome.

As a destination Cowdray offers a range of premium country pursuits from golf on the Championship course, an award-winning clay-pigeon shooting school, fly fishing on the river Rother, walking, cycling, riding, polo – both spectating and learning to play – to hospitality at the Farm Shop & Café, holiday cottages, wedding venues and the stunning Cowdray House, set at the heart of the Estate, available for private stays and events.
