Wood interiors from local makers
What's the one thing that could make cottagecore more Muddy? Why, a folksy rustic interiors vibe produced entirely by local indies, of course. Get the local look with these Sussex woodsmiths.
Brighton-based designer-maker duo Ash & Plumb specialise in gorgeously sculpted, rustic, warm interiors that just beg to be tastefully arranged on the mantlepiece or gingham tablecloth. Pop dried flowers in for the ultimate in laid-back cottagecore. It’s all made from sustainable, reclaimed wood and the range spans adorable bud vases perfect for showing off the first signs of spring to beautifully tactile bowls and trays. Pieces sell out quickly but don’t worry, the talented duo regularly drop new studio collections.
Now you’re after something to balance your gorgeous Ash & Plumb vases on, head to Zayin Studios in Wiston to snap up statement furniture fashioned from local and sustainable timber or commission something bespoke. Designer-maker Alex specialises in tables, a piece he sees as the focal point of any home. We love this wonderful river-themed piece, above, which we can totally imagine propping up plate of canapes at a casual gathering whilst we drop in not-at-all smugly that the wood used was sourced from the sawmill next door to Alex’s studio.
There’s no point putting your insta-worthy new table on that shabby old parquet floor that looks like it should have stayed in the 80s. Sussex Floor Restoration is your speed-dial, for revamping all kinds of wooden floors and polishing them up until you can practically see your face in them. The process is dust free, quick and easy, and you’ll be amazed at the difference afterwards.
