Muddy Awards winners’ drinks
Our 2019 Sussex Muddy Stilettos Awards winners gathered together for an afternoon of celebration at Henfield this week.
Our rather quirky venue was the party barn at House of Hud on Rye Farm where a series of interconnecting tented rooms with evocative names like Bombay Boudoir, Purple Palace and La Rouge have been constructed to showcase the Arabian Tent Company‘s collection of party and wedding options all handmade in India.
A big thanks to Sussex vineyards Bolney Wine Estate near Haywards Heath and Bluebell Vineyard Estates at Furners Green near the Bluebell Railway and Sheffield Park for leading a wine tasting of their ranges. We even got a sneak preview of Bluebell’s forthcoming rosé.
If you’d like to check them out for yourself, there’s a great opportunity coming up. Though both vineyards are open to visitors year-round, on Sussex Wineries Weekend on Sat 15 and Sun 16 June (handily coinciding with Fathers’ Day) there are special events at eight vineyards including free tastings, a barbecue and live music at Bluebell and picnics and a Summer Fayre with local produce and crafts at Bolney.
A huge thank you also goes to Liz from Sussex Gourmand who worked super hard preparing and serving some wonderful canapés she had cleverly matched to the wines and decorated with edible flowers. Not only does she cater for events but she also sells gift boxes online and canape kits with ingredients to assemble yourself, including her speciality, Sussex-reared venison and beef bresaola. She’ll also be at the Bolney Summer Fayre.
Some of the canapes featured wonderfully delicate salmon kindly supplied by the experts at Springs’ Smokery which has a deli shop and runs tours under the Downs at Edburton – the company’s home since 1964.
We also had some Sussex cheeses to share (Brighton Blue, Capricorn Brie and Saint Giles for those who asked!)
Later we took the chance to snoop around the function lawn and quirky Air B&B buildings at House of Hud (including a gorgeous retro Airstream caravan) getting stilettos suitably muddy and being pursued in some cases by the resident hens, peacocks and guinea fowls!
A big thanks to everyone who helped host the afternoon and to volunteer photographer Gary Noakes for pics in horribly tricky low lighting.
Congratulations again to our lovely winners…
