The 2018 winners gathered to celebrate at Wiston Estate vineyard

In a week of rain, the sun shone, as it should, on our Sussex Muddy Stilettos Awards 2018 winners as we gathered to celebrate.

Oops who left the scissors out (err, me!)

The setting was the lovely Wiston Estate vineyard tasting barn tucked away (well done to everyone for following the directions) down a country lane at Washington, near Pulborough.

Certificates were handed out, photos were snapped, nibbles nibbled and coincidences discovered – it turned out Muddy commercial manager Naomi had worked at the BBC with one of our guests, while Sharon from Annie’s Closet and I realised we’d been on a trip to Goa together 15 years before!

We were then led in a tasting of three of the award-winning estate’s sparkling wines, Wiston Brut, Wiston Rosé and Vintage Wiston Estate Cuvée.

Big thanks to Gary Noakes for photography and to Kirsty Goring from Wiston for leading the tasting and telling us how a South African relative’s vision led to the founding of the estate.

You can book your own tour of Wiston Estate and don’t forget it’s Sussex Wineries Weekend this 15-17 June when Wiston and a host of other vineyards across the county will be opening their doors for the likes of tastings, picnics, BBQs, produce markets, even a film screening.

Congratulations once more to all our lovely 2018 winners
