An intriguingly named shop, in Petworth, West Sussex but also online, Kissed By Betty has a fabulous range of funky homewares and gifts. We’re talking lampshades, wall art, cushions, candles and more. We like these fun mirrors (£35 each), perfect for a teen.
For all sorts of unique and craft-slanted gifts head to Ethel Loves me in Rye for inspiration. They have a gorgeous selection from tree ornaments, stocking fillers and Rowdy & Fancy’s chocolate to upcycled furniture. You might even be able to grab one of their popular refillable decoupage washing up liquid containers (bottom right) to add a touch of class to tackling those Christmas Day pots and pans.
Outside the box
Paint queen Annie Sloan has teamed up with the Sussex home of the Bloomsbury Set – Charleston House to produce a series of themed chalk paints. This set comes with a keepsake box to decorate, an inspiration guide, plus a wax cloth and brushes. £59.95.
With a workshop just over the border at Cranleigh, but also available online, Simon Pure’s contemporary jewellery often comes with playful and colourful accents. The cute silver hummingbird hovering on a silver chain is £115. It’s also available in rose gold and 9 carat gold. Drop a hint yourself perhaps about the Crumble bracelet (right). They’re £332 each and are studded with six assorted blue sapphire and blue topaz.

For presents for gardeners, scarves, jewellery, ornaments, bird feeders and more besides, drop into the lovely shop at Denmans Garden near Fontwell (there’s a great cafe on site while you’re there).

The Christmas selection includes Nutcracker characters, angels, mice and Father Christmas and friends. Make a splash
Tick off that Xmas list by buying your friends and fam beautiful handmade chocolates, tablettes, truffles and pastilles with distinctive colourful splashes from Arundel chocolatiers Noble and Stace, online or from a variety of Sussex and Surrey suppliers. Some, like the English Sparkling Wine and Brighton and Chilgrove Gin varieties, have an extra boozy Sussex twist. There are even dairy-free chocs. Truffles boxes are £10 – 20. You can also buy vouchers for chocolate-making workshops.
Muddy Award-winning Bignose and Beardy cider is donating 10% of its sales over the festive period to Uckfield Food Bank. An even better reason then to get this tasty small batch Sussex product on your Christmas shopping list. Get a taster gift pack of six different ciders for £18, or, check out the mulled cider kits, enamel mugs and party boxes. You can also give a gift subscription.
Beef it up
Sussex Gourmand, which produces beef and venison bresaola, laid on the fabulous canapés for the Muddy Awards winners’ drinks this year. It sells clever canape kits teaming the locally reared meat with artisan crackers and condiments. A great gift for a foodie, or to order if you’re entertaining yourself. Options include a simple Sussex Wild Venison Bresaola Duo (£16) and a Taste of Sussex Gastro Box (pictured), for £96.75, which also includes Springs’ Smokery Salmon, cheeses and Bolney wine.
Hop to it
This unique low calorie, light beer is infused with organic hops to give it a crisp and clean Prosecco-like flavour so it’s a perfect festive party tipple. You can also gift it by post. A mixed case is £22.
Among options for tea and coffee lovers are a coffee, glass and candle gift set (pictured, £32) from Edgcumbes. The expert roasters also have a version with tea for £20 and other kits with keep cups.

Slake your thirst
Sussex is a hot spot for some fantastic gins. Perhaps the most unusual is Slake, produced just metres from the beach at Shoreham-by-Sea, because it contains ingredients its creator Tom Martin-Wells has actually foraged from around the coast and countryside. Choose from Sussex Dry Gin or an autumnal Hedgerow Gin 9£6 – £39.50 depending on size). There are also gift boxes (pictured, £17) and fun negroni gin baubles (£15) this year. Get it online or from local stockists.
Add some sparkle
Naturally Sussex sparkling wine is a perfect choice for a gift or party. Among choices are Hindleap Seyval Blanc from Bluebell Vineyard (onsite or online), and the Bolney Bubbly (£23.99) from Bolney Wine Estate. Among its gift packs, Bluebell has a sparkling trio for £85 and a Sparkling Six Pack for £170, while, from Bolney, the ‘Sparkling Six’ case (pictured) is from £150 (£156.99 in a gift box).
Built to last, this range of wooden block toys and puzzles will have creative youngsters building anything from a face to a town. The designs from this Brighton-based business are pretty hip too, inspired by album covers, knitwear, museums and typography.
Brighton-based skateboard specialist LongboardsUK has a range of cool sizes and designs from retro to cutting edge from around £19.99 up, as well as seperate decks, wheels and trucks. You can even order a custom-made board for that special skater in your life. Buy them in the Oddballs store in Brighton’s North Laine or online.
