Nowadays there are more Xmas wreath workshops than you can shake a leafy stick at. Here are some of the choices across Sussex
From a niche crafters’ preserve to a mini epidemic – wreath making workshops have boomed in popularity over the last few years. Here are 15 places across Sussex to get creative with the greenery this November and December. There are heaps more, so check your local florists and garden centres, but be quick, they tend to sell out early.
Eco-friendly succulent wreath making, Hi Cacti, Brighton, Sun 17 Nov
Here’s something different. Hi Cacti at Seven Dials in Brighton will teach you how to make an eco-friendly live succulent wreath that you can use year after year, re-potting the plants after Christmas. £38.10 with a minced pie and mulled wine or tea plus 10% off anything in the shop on the night. Private classes can also be booked for 5-7 people.
Nell’s Flowers, Christmas Wreath making, Worthing, Wed 20, Wed 27, Sat 30 Nov & Sat 7, Wed 11, Sat 14 Dec
This two-hour course with festive nibbles costs £35 per person or £60 for a pair. You can also gift a workshop with a voucher as an early Christmas present. There are several dates but call for latest availability.
Traditional Christmas wreath-making, Sheffield Park and Garden, Uckfield, Wed 27, Thurs 28 & Sat 30 Nov
This National Trust workshop takes place in the Coach House tearoom building at Sheffield Park at 14.00 – 16.30 on 27 and 28 Nov and a choice of 10.00 – 12.30 or 14.00 – 16.30 on 30 Nov. It costs £35.00, though if you want to visit the garden after you’ll need to pay admission on top. You’ll need your own gloves and secateurs for the wreath making.
Bulb Wreath Workshop, Soulfit Fitness & Yoga studio, Lewes, Thurs 28 Nov
There are just six places on this Thurs evening workshop run by Bulb florists, so get in quick. £45 including a glass of fizz.
Wreath/table decoration workshops/ Artisan Bakehouse, Ashurst, Thurs 28 Nov, Wed 11 Dec/ Thurs 12 Dec
There are just a couple of places left on the Xmas wreath making workshops at Artisan Bakehouse (28 Nov and 11 Dec) – one with afternoon tea and Prosecco (£60), one with lunch (£70). There’s also a chance to make festive table decorations incorporating similar greenery on 12 Dec with a festive cream tea with fizz attached (£65). Welcome tea, coffee or mulled wine included.
Leonardsleee Lakes & Gardens, near Horsham, Fri 29 Nov
Mulled wine, mince pies, tea, coffee and of course the chance to be guided in making a seasonal wreath. Most of the workshops here have sold out but at time of writing there were still places on Fri 29 Nov at 14.00. £45 (£36 for members) plus £1 booking fee and that includes entry to the gardens. Top tip – the gift shop’s good for Christmas pressies too.
Neville Collective Christmas Event, Lewes, Sat 30 Nov & Sun 1 Dec
Combine wreath arranging with some arts and crafts buying. Cut flower growers Forage and Bloom will be demonstrating how to make hand crafted wreaths alongside a Christmas showcase from eight artists called The Neville Collective at Mary’s Church Hall, Lewes. The Walled Nursery, Hawkhurst, Kent, Wed 4 – Sat 7 Dec & Wed 11 – Sat 14 Dec
Plenty of date slots to learn how to make a Christmas Wreath in the glasshouses at the Walled Nursery just over the border in Hawkhurst, with hands on help at all stages. Besides materials and refreshments, there’s a festive lunch in the Vinery Cafe after each workshop. Tickets are £65.
Nymans, near Haywards Heath, Wed 4, Thurs 5 and Fri 6 Dec
There are three dates in early December to get creative at Nymans. The National Trust workshops run 13.00 to 15.00 and cost £35. Garden admission and tea and coffee are in included in the ticket price. So you can check out the seasonal frog sculptures exhibition while you are there.
Enchanted Florist workshops, The Highdown, Goring, Tues 10, Fri 13 Dec
Former Muddy Award-winner The Enchanted Florist is hosting evening workshops (£35) at The Goring pub/restaurant so plenty of chance to hang around for a drink afterwards to toast your efforts. The Tues 10 workshop is in the afternoon, the Fri 13 one in the evening.
Christmas Wreath Masterclass, Squire’s Garden Centres, Washington/Crawley, Thurs 5 Dec/Fri 6 Dec
You’ll get a fresh noble fir ring which you can shown how to decorate with pinecones, miniature baubles, ribbons, dried flowers and even foliage from your own garden if you wish to bring it along. There are two sessions a day, on Thurs 5 Dec at Washington and Fri 6 Dec at Crawley. Tickets are £30 including a voucher for a free tea or coffee and slice of cake in Squire’s Café Bar, plus 10% off all plants bought on the day.
Wreath Making, Rebecca Cragg Floral Design, Ditchling, Fri 6 & Sun 15 December
Let a former Muddy Award-winner teach you how to create a luxury wreath while you enjoy a glass of local Ridgeview Sparkling wine and some tasty bowl food in these intimate workshops for up to six at a time. £65 each.

One of several place in Lewes with wreath making workshops, but dates are filling up fast. Still with availability at the time of writing are the evenings of 5, 8 and 11 Dec. If you have a group of six or more however you can arrange your own private session on another date.
Christmas Wreath Making with Jo Coles, Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft, Sat 7 – Sun 8 Dec
This one’s a snip at £20 and suitable for families with children 7+ It also involves a bit of foraging. Jo will take you out on a walk around Ditchling gathering foliage. Afterwards, you’ll head back to the museum for mince pies and a hot drink while she guides you through the creative process. It runs 14.00 – 16.00. Festive Florals & Wreath Making Day, 8 Dec, Great Betley Farmhouse, Henfield, Sun 8 Dec
Hosted by Muddy Award finalist Amanda Jane Flowers and Great Betley Farmhouse this full day involves making both a wreath and a handtied gift bouquet, selecting from a wide range of fresh materials. You’ll also get a hearty Sussex farm lunch. 10.30 – 18.00 £95.

Alternatively, on Thurs 21 Nov you can learn how to make a festive hanging basket and on Wed 18 Dec there’s a chance to make a table centre piece for your Christmas lunch.
Willow wreath making, WWT Arundel Wetland Centre, Fri 13 and Sat 14 Dec
Use willow and natural plants to make a wreath for your door – naturally made, simply beautiful. Create a natural willow wreath from scratch, then weave it with seasonal wetland plants. Traditional Christmas Wreath Making with Woodland Wonders Forest School, Sidlesham, Chichester, Sun 15 Dec and Sun 22 Dec
Get in quick and you can have a crack at making wreaths on moss rings with foraged materials such as Holly, Ivy, Conifer, Pittosporum and added decorative dried fruits, cones, berries, teasels and poppy heads. Most dates have sold out but at time of writing Sun 15 Dec and Sun 22 Dec have space. £32.93 including refreshments in a communal greenhouse with free parking.
