Record Store Day in Sussex
Free in-store gigs, giveaways and limited edition releases - find out the shops participating in RSD 2018
Whether or not you have a beard and bun combo to complement your vinyl collection, if you love music you’ll be wanting to hot foot it down to your nearest indie shop for Record Store Day this Sat 21 April. There will be giveaways and in-store gigs to celebrate and 500 special limited edition releases from a 12 inch of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive to several Bowie tracks and live recordings from Sussex’s own Rag N’ Bone Man that some will be camping to get their hands on. Here are some of the Sussex specialists taking part…
Union Music Store, Lewes
This Lewes shop that specialises in folk, country and Americana will be open from 8.00am for all the exclusive vinyl releases and have live music on a stage outside in Landsdown Place from noon till 17.00 with, in order of appearance, Christof van der Ven, Jamie Freeman Music, Felix Holt and The Radicals, Bennett Wilson Poole and Hatful of Rain.
As well as the special releases on sale, bands and artists – including The Undateables’s Daniel Wakeford and the Psychics House Band – will be gigging in the Kensington Gardens shop in slots from 8.00 and there’ll also be goodie bag giveaways and a big raffle at 18.45.
Vinyl Revolution, Brighton
Vinyl Revolution in Duke Street will have BBC Sussex broadcasting from the store in the morning and live music from 13.00 to 16.00 with five bands playing acoustic sets out in the street and other local shops lending their support to the occasion.
Vinyl Frontier, Eastbourne
Official Record Store Day vinyl releases will be available from 8.00am at this shop in the Little Chelsea area and don’t worry if that sounds a bit early for a Saturday – there’s a cafe on site where you can celebrate your special purchase. Between 13.00 to 18.00 catch five live acts including The Near Jazz Experience and Sister Suzy then there’ll be DJs Ray Gorman (That Petrol Emotion), Chris ‘Da Doo Ron Ron’ King & Rhydd Pugh spinning till midnight. There’ll even be a special beer garden set up for the day.
Pebble Records, Eastbourne
D.J.’s from the Original Forty-Fivers will be playing reggae, hip-hop, soul and funk all on 7″ vinyl between 15.00 and 17.00 at this store in Gildredge Road. There will also be free tea and coffee to perk up those queuing for special releases.
Music’s Not Dead, Bexhill
Catch gigs from 13.30 to 18.30 at this Devonshire Road store with Emily Barker, Sister Suzie, Felix Holt & The Radicals, Oliver Cherer, Trevor Moss & Hannah-Lou.
