Costs can easily escalate, the choice can be overwhelming and you’ve quite literally got to live with your decision. This is exactly where bathroom design expert Danii Tipping who owns the new <a href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/ripples-bathrooms-lindfield/">Ripples</a> showroom in Lindfield comes in.&nbsp;</p>



<p>With a strong background in interiors and helping clients get exactly what they want and need from their homes, Danii is on hand to help you re-imagine the possibility of your home bathroom be it for family use or an ensuite and essentially how it can add value to your home and grow with your needs.&nbsp;</p>



<p>To take a lot of the legwork out of having a new bathroom, Muddy spoke to Danii to get her top tips from how to avoid costly mistakes to what to avoid during installation as well as all the new trends for this year.&nbsp;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-did-you-become-a-bathroom-designer-nbsp">How did<strong> you become a bathroom designer?&nbsp;</strong></h3>



<p>I&#8217;ve worked in interiors based roles since I was 16 but I learnt from an age that interiors were my &#8220;thing&#8221;. Since then my passion evolved into a love for client satisfaction so finding a career which allows me to combine the two became my mission. I originally worked in a national trade paint store where I thrived helping the public co-ordinate paint colour choices and wallpapers. From there I tried out kitchen trade sales, had a break to have my two eldest children, then I completed training to become bathroom design consultant at a national bathroom sales store. Once I had secured that role, it didn&#8217;t take me long to realise I had found my calling, who knew? From that store, I had designed and sold a 7-bathroom &#8220;half-mansion&#8221; for an Arabian princess and subsequently got head-hunted to start managing a bathroom showroom elsewhere. I&#8217;ve gone from strength to strength by surrounding myself with the right people and now have solid years of experience and many completed projects. The only next step (as I always want more) was to open a&nbsp;Ripples&nbsp;of my own after marvelling over one of its existing showrooms many moons ago.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-can-a-bathroom-designer-do-that-someone-couldn-t-do-themselves-nbsp">What can a bathroom designer do that someone couldn&#8217;t do themselves?&nbsp;</h3>

Usually that&#8217;s what people who haven&#8217;t designed a bathroom before might overlook and before you know it, the contingency budget has gone. There is a lot to think about when designing bathrooms, especially if you need more out of your space than you&#8217;re currently are getting. Detailed planning (right down to the tile layout), lighting&nbsp;and waste positioning, reduction of boxing, chasing in pipes or adding boxing for features&#8230;these are all such an important factors for installation that when done correctly will minimise delays and extra costs in your fit out time and therefore keep relieving your stress factor. Experienced designers will be able to plan all of this alongside keeping in constant communication with fitters (whether that&#8217;s your own or a&nbsp;Ripples&nbsp;recommended fitter) to keep your project running smoothly. <h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-the-main-thing-people-overlook-in-bathrooms">What&#8217;s the main thing people overlook in bathrooms?</h3>



<p>Not understanding how their space can work better for them! People assume that everything must stay in the same place when that&#8217;s not always necessarily correct. Skilled and talented bathroom designers, like the ones you&#8217;ll find across the whole&nbsp;Ripples&nbsp;group, are savvy and clever at rearranging the bathroom but in a cost-effective way always keeping installation and product investment choices in mind.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-the-biggest-and-most-costly-mistake-people-make-when-doing-it-themselves">What&#8217;s the biggest and most costly mistake people make when doing it themselves?</h3>



<p>Underestimating the technicalities when it comes to bathroom design. Bathrooms have a lot of extras hidden away that you need. Correct IP rating for lighting, roughs for concealed brassware, joist positioning for waste on shower trays etc. The list could go on. It&#8217;s a lot to manage and think about if you&#8217;ve only ever renovated one bathroom., whereas it is second nature to us bathroom designers. We know lead times of stock, we know what will need to be at site as priority. We can schedule your planning and design stages around the lead time of when that bathroom is being installed. We can also help solve any problems that arise on site (as it does occasionally happen!) but we are able to get things resolved/changed pretty quickly without having to bother the homeowner about it. If you&#8217;re doing it yourself, that could be hours out of your&nbsp;day trying to organise help!&nbsp;Ripples&nbsp;is all about taking the stress out of it for our clients.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-if-it-s-a-smaller-space-what-is-the-skill-of-a-bathroom-designer">If it&#8217;s a smaller space, what is the skill of a bathroom designer?</h3>



<p>Smaller spaces can actually pack just a strong of a punch as a large space. Tight spaces are fun and challenging for us designers! Again, we are able to utilise the years of knowledge and managing installations to be able to perceive where we can move things around and make your space work perfectly for you.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-about-installation-there-s-so-many-instagram-diy-videos-but-what-are-the-dangers-nbsp">What about installation, there&#8217;s so many Instagram DIY videos, but what are the dangers?&nbsp;</h3>



<p>&nbsp;A&nbsp;stunning wow-factor design being compromised by poor installation makes the design not so wow anymore! It&#8217;s really important to have a proper credited and qualified bathroom installer who puts passion into their products. I design so my grout lines are synched beautifully with the positioning of in-built wall niches, vanity units, and mirrors, so it is important a competent installer can accomplish these little but important things. The dangers are not having the correct knowledge of wastes and pipe works and being able to ensure the new bathroom is up to building regs. There&#8217;s a lot of certification needed with each new bathroom nowadays which if you were selling your home at a later date may get asked for. It is definitely worth getting a skilled installer in every time.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-are-the-latest-trends-in-bathrooms-for-2024-nbsp">What are the latest trends in bathrooms for 2024?&nbsp;</h3>



<p>Arches, fluting, terracotta and keeping it classic. We&#8217;re seeing terracotta really coming back to play in larger spaces and used in flooring more and more. It&#8217;s a trend that&#8217;s come back around. The arch shape is really taking off and I think it&#8217;s here to stay. Using arches as your entryway to a shower enclosure or in mirrors is a really great way to incorporate this trend and use fluted glass doors to compliment the arch. Mixing straight lines and curves are my favourite way to add texture to a room.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-is-there-an-affordable-way-to-have-a-luxury-bathroom">Is there an affordable way to have a luxury bathroom?</h3>



<p>Of course &#8211; we can design the best bathroom space for our client&#8217;s budget and can make tweaks in product selection and design to ensure the client gets the most for their investment. A beautifully designed bathroom also helps.&nbsp;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-the-one-things-people-ignore-which-you-wish-they-wouldn-t">What&#8217;s the one things people ignore which you wish they wouldn&#8217;t?</h3>



<p>&nbsp;Not understanding the constraints of pipework that could be there if budget is not significant enough to cover the change of layout. Its complex and will always cost more than you think if you don&#8217;t get your layouts down correctly in line with budgets from the get go. Utilising boxing effectively to create exciting lighting or niches or both. Another one is not designing the space according to who is using it. For example, will the space be used by small children? If so, we need to make it child friendly but with longevity that it will grow with the child.&nbsp;</p>
