Albourne Estate, Albourne

Fancy a glass of fizz? Best make it local! This family-run vineyard just a stone’s throw from Brighton is a Muddy Sussex go-to for a delicious new tipple or an convivial evening spent wine tasting.

They say good things come in small packages, and that’s certainly the case when it comes to boutique vineyard and winery Albourne Estate. With a relatively diddy 26 acres of vines, this family-run business keeps batches deliberately small to best pour all their love and attention into their sustainably produced wines and vermouth.

Set on the south-facing slopes of the South Downs, the Albourne Estate vineyard grows seven grape varieties, including classic ‘champagne’ varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier for their delicious sparkling wines, and Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Bacchus and Ortega for the still wines. Once harvested, the grapes are transformed into the estate’s signature still and sparkling wines using 100% green energy (clock the 159 solar panels helping to make the magic happen) – so pour us another glass guilt-free, garçon!

Want to wet your whistle before you pick up a case from the online store? Schedule a private tour around the vineyard and winery before stopping off in the chic Tasting Room for a tutored tasting of four of the estate’s current releases. Albourne Estate also hosts regular events such as chocolate and wine tasting evenings, curry dinners and floristry workshops (with a glass of something sparkly to accompany, naturally). Pick up a gift voucher for an instant win present – and then hope the lucky recipient brings you along for the fun…
