Amberley Museum
Muddy says: This huge museum brings history to life with demonstrations, vintage vehicle rides and more. A sure bet for a family day out.
Open air Amberley Museum celebrated its 40th birthday in 2018 and is still helping us time travel in the West Sussex countryside.
With 36 acres to explore and over 40 exhibits to visit, there is much to discover and learn, and plenty of fun to be had in the process.
Explore the industrial heritage of the South East through a communications building, electricity hall, working printshop and lime kilns – which date back to when the site was a working chalk quarry, and see tradition crafts being practised on site by a wheelwright, blacksmith and more.
You can also take a ride around the museum on the narrow gauge railway and historic buses.
The museum is open three days a week during the winter season and five between February – October, check website for full opening times. Its accessibility friendly plus dogs on leads are welcome – in fact, Amberley was awarded the Kennel Club Best Dog Friendly Attraction Award for Days Out in 2016.
The cafe serves hot and cold food and there are picnic areas around the site.
