Fontwell Park, Chichester

Hoof it to Fontwell for an adrenaline-fuelled day at the races, complete with jump racing, a uniquely challenging steeplechase course, and abundant family fun.

Sitting pretty on the Southern edge of the South Downs, Fontwell Park is within easy reach of both Arundel and Chichester, and every bit as scenic. Its claim to fame is a figure-of-eight steeplechase course. Unique here in the UK, it’s a distinct challenge for jockeys and a sure bet for spectator thrills.

The course’s buzzing calendar features more than 20 annual race meetings, including the feature Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle. It also hosts popular themed events for seasoned fans and novices alike. The Family Festival Raceday (24 May 2026) is a new highlight for all ages, while Ladies Evening (28 Aug 2026) provides a sassy take on the classic Ladies Day, complete with live music, a drone show and of course spectacular attire. Heading into the autumn, Oktoberfest (3 Oct 2026) celebrates the season with two-days of competitive jump racing and Bavarian-themed scoffing and quaffing.

For an extra special visit, racegoers can choose from a range hospitality packages available year round, with elegant fine dining (yes, there’s fizz), balcony views and private suites all on offer. Memberships, including corporate memberships, can also be purchased.

Along with its turf-based attractions, the park’s Grade II-listed Fontwell House makes a picturesque event backdrop. With its graceful white pillars and stepped entrance – not to mention the surrounding 65 acres, gorgeous gardens included – it makes a striking choice for weddings in particular.
