Heritage, Slaugham, West Sussex

A fine dining destination restaurant with rooms with Michelin starred chef, Matt Gillan, at the helm.

“Progressively British food with something a bit unusual,” is how Great British Menu star Matt Gillan describes his food at Heritage. The restaurant opened in 2019 and transformed the former pub, The Chequers Inn, into a luxury location. Five boutique rooms followed and completed the transformation into a destination venue.

The multi course menus feature classics carefully combined with Matt’s quirky twists across four, seven or nine courses with the option to pair with creative cocktails or wines. He’s a Sussex gourmet legend in large thanks to his Michelin star for the Pass at South Lodge hotel, some sporadic residencies in Brighton and Horsham.

Heritage is a handsome venue complete with a sophisticated bar designed for an aperitif while the restaurant overlooks a beautiful garden, and beyond woods and fields the Sussex countryside is famous for. After your meal you can make the most of the steam-punk lounge and on sunnier days enjoy the garden and front terrace.

The rooms each have their own personality and signature style, all are available exclusively on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. While the restaurant is an adult-only environment children over 10 are welcome, while and families including furry members can enjoy  the bar during the day.
