The Hungry Guest, Petworth

A locally-driven, artisanal food shop selling seasonal, delicious things. Whether stocking up your cupboard or seeking a sandwich to go, you’ll want to come, well, hungry!

It’s no surprise that a business with ‘hungry’ in its name is passionate about good food. But The Hungry Guest is about more than just feeding a craving: with sustainability at its centre, it focuses entirely on seasonal, locally available, artisanal food. Though based as a food shop in the picturesque South Downs market town of Petworth, the brand also has a small café at the Newlands House Gallery, as well as one in West Malling, Kent. It’s part of the Petworth Places family.

But what about the grub, right? Let us tell you: everything on offer at The Hungry Guest is a veritable delight. Customers are met with an array of beautiful, mindful produce that ranges from freshly baked goods (the brownies are award-winning, just saying…), high-quality and ethical meats, non-perishable cupboard goods, and more. You can stock your kitchen cupboard, order a hamper for a loved one, or pick up a top-quality picnic to take on your South Downs ramble. All, while feeling entirely smug in your knowledge that the products are delicious, sustainable, and oodles of other positive words to boot. Now that’s our kind of shopping!

If you don’t want to visit in person, you can also order hampers and groceries online; delivery is free within the town of Petworth and just £5 for other locations in the parish. See details online.
