THE PIG-in the South Downs

The Sussex arm of the legendary hotel group where the focus is on fine dining, gorgeous interiors and providing fabulous rustic charm – all set in the bucolic rolling hills of the South Downs.

Set in Grade II-listed Madehurst Lodge near Arundel, THE PIG-in the South Downs brings that signature PIG formula to rolling Sussex hills and vineyard views. Deep in the South Downs National Park, it’s countryside escapism with a foodie heartbeat – relaxed, stylish and just the right amount of indulgent.

Rooms are dotted between the main house, Stable Yard buildings and a cluster of Field and Garden Wagons tucked around the original courtyards. Expect velvet Chesterfields, roll-top baths, wood panelling and monsoon showers in the house, while the wagons dial up the romance with log burners, private terraces and outdoor showers. It’s classic PIG décor – rustic but polished, cosy but cool.

As ever, the kitchen garden is the star. The greenhouse restaurant champions the brand’s famed 25-mile menu, with fruit, veg and herbs grown on site and the rest sourced from top local producers. And yes, the vineyard is very much up and running now: thousands of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines line the slopes, producing Sussex fizz that makes a stay here feel even more celebratory.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly placed for exploring Arundel’s castle and antiques, the galleries of Petworth, the racecourse at Goodwood or bracing coastal walks. In short: vineyard views, hyper-local plates and South Downs serenity – Piggy perfection with a Sussex accent.
