The Plough Rye, East Sussex
A cosy country pub complete with all the trimmings from a beautiful beer garden with views over the Brede valley to a classic British-focused menu.

A quintessentially British venue with everything you expect (and more) from a ‘proper pub’ set in the stunning countryside just outside of Rye. The jewel in The Plough’s crown has to be its large beer garden with sweeping views of the Brede valley where you can spend an entire afternoon gazing over the rolling hills, down to the sea.
The menu offers inventive, modern dishes which change every week, using British produce from local suppliers. Think monkfish cheek scampi and salt marsh lamb saddle chop, alongside more classic pub favourites such as fish and chips and burgers.
And a pub wouldn’t be a pub without a Sunday roast, which The Plough pulls off with aplomb. The wine list is concise and interesting alongside draft beers and all-essential cocktails.
The interior features exposed wooden floorboards and roaring log fires – which are crying out to cosy up next to with a glass of red wine, and bring your dog as all areas of the pub are dog friendly. There’s plenty of light, yes, even on the greyer days, with the large double doors opening out onto the garden.
Want to make a night of it? There’s a spacious flat above the pub that’s available to book with views that stretch out across the countryside and to the sea. You won’t want to leave!
