Wakehurst
In the heart of Sussex, lies one of the most biodiverse places on Earth – Wakehurst, Kew’s wild botanic garden, home to the UK’s largest conservation project, the Millennium Seed Bank and a picture-perfect Elizabethan Mansion.
Year round there is always something new to see at Wakehurst, from the carpet of bluebells in Spring, to the dramatic kaleidoscope of colours in Autumn. With special events running all through the seasons there are always good reasons to visit this Sussex gem with the whole family. Make a day of it and immerse yourself in the amazing ornamental gardens, wild woodlands and nature reserve.
Visit the UK’s largest conservation project and see the Kew scientists at work. Many of the plants in the gardens have been carefully grown and chosen not just for their beauty, but also for their scientific potential – kids and adults alike will be fascinated by this living laboratory, that gives little ones a lesson in conservation without them even noticing!
Need to burn the beans off the kids? Head to one of the wild play areas; Tree Trunk Trek and the Labyrinth are great natural play spaces for them to run free. The intricate pathways spark imagination, entertaining them while you put your feet up at one of the many picnic benches with a coffee from Stables Kitchen.
Every year Wakehurst hosts incredible art installations, nature and family events within it’s stunning 535 acres of gardens and landscapes to discover, so whatever the weather there is something to see and do.
