The stunning Wiston Estate has been in the hands of the Goring family since 1743 and is presided over today by Harry & Pip Goring and managed by their son Richard and his wife Kirsty.

Ever since Pip arrived at Wiston in 1972, she dreamed of planting a vineyard to evoke her childhood in South Africa’s Western Cape and in fact such is the rich history of this area some 2000 years before her family settled here, the Romans were the first to grow grapes on the soft chalk slopes of the South Downs.

In 2006 her dream became a reality when the family planted a south-facing 16-acre site with Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay vines and Pip’s son Richard moved back bringing with him a new passion for the land whilst working on small scale organic farms in western Canada.

Fifteen years later, Wiston Estate’s winery is a focal point for its ever-growing community and since the vineyards were first planted, the Estate’s team of growers and winemakers has doubled in size.

The vineyards consistently produce exceptional fruit and the winemaking philosophy is simply to guide it through production as gently as possible – at Wiston grapes get total TLC and are pressed immediately before being fermented and aged in the barrel and in tank prior to bottling.

In 2021 they opened the Insta-worthy Chalk restaurant on the site, this chic eaterie draws together the best local produce, including ingredients from the Estate and its neighbours, and aims to create dishes that express the nature and history of the land. It provides honest and delicious food which can be enjoyed alongside the their award-winning wines.

New for summer 2023 is the opportunity to stay at Wiston, with the opening of The Pump House, a beautifully renovated pump house hidden away at the foot of the South Downs hills. With unrivalled views of Chanctonbury Ring, this quirky and off the beaten track cottage is perfect for getting away from it all. This luxury self-catering holiday cottage is perfectly positioned for exploring Brighton, Arundel, Goodwood, Worthing and Petworth.

The estate also holds events including themed dinners, tastings and wine tours plus offers walking routes around their beautiful grounds.
