<p>Overlooking the bobbing boats of Chichester Marina, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Muddy loves the coastal vibes of this contemporary restaurant celebrating local, seasonal produce in style. There’s a more casual cafe option too but the best option is to spend an afternoon in the garden or on the terrace. You’ll be overlooking the boats and paddle boards while you tuck into the likes of moules frites, tempura fish tacos (which are amazing), scallops et al. If there is rain there’s lots of cover from giant parasols to little huts as well as the option to sit inside where you can still admire the views. It’s hardly surprising then that the Boat House is a Muddy Award winner 2024 for best casual dining.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This hotel has a private stretch of sand as well as gardens but Muddy recommends taking your spot at the restaurant which has a Miami Beach club vibe. On sunnier days you can set up residency for the night at the Terrace on the Beach restaurant serving BBQ, small plates, salads, sandwiches and classic British coastal dishes. All overlooking the stunning beach. For the cooler months book in at The Rally Bar and Restaurant that offers afternoon tea, Sunday lunch, as well as an impressive a la carte menu.</p>

<p>Eye-catching much? This venue is a feast for the eyes as much as the stomach, with architecture designed by Conran-trained Thomas Heatherwick. Food-wise, think uncomplicated seaside classics of tempura prawns, fish and chips, fish soup, crab et al but Muddy’s pick is the Fish and Fizz. There’s also a Muddy recommended option to stay nearby &#8211; and enjoy more amazing views &#8211; at the aptly named <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="East Beach House (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.eastbeachhouse.co.uk/" target="_blank">East Beach House</a>, a charming boutique Victorian guest house.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Seafood and small plates are the order of the day here hidden inside Heist market a stone’s throw from the beach. Choose from the daily specials lunchtime small plates, a la cart or Sunday brunch and of course their oyster bar &#8211; which is where you’ll find Muddy with a glass of fizz in hand, yes even at lunch!</p>

<p>Just a short drive away from the beautiful Selsey Bill, (one of the most beautiful pieces of coastline in Sussex) is this adorable quirky yet traditional tea room. Locally, they’re famous for their delicious crab sarnies and salads. Their special pork scratchings are ripe for the scoffing!</p>

<p>The Brighton institution now has a new, elevated home, boasting even better views than its seafront predecessor but with the same fish-focused menu. Now on West Street, for sunny days you can enjoy your lobster and fries on the terrace (just watch out for hungry seagulls) and during cooler climes have your oysters and Champagne indoors with an 180 degree view.</p>

<p>Whatever the food may lack, the location at this waterfront cafe more than makes up for it. Their stone-baked pizzas are Muddy&#8217;s choice and they’re served until 8pm so long as the sun is shining. Coffee and cake is also on offer as is lunch until 3pm &#8211; the best choice when you’ve got you kids in tow.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If the extensive list of English wines (more than anywhere else in the UK) isn’t enough to get you booking a table (and why on earth not?) then the beautiful seaside view will. Oh and did we mention the food menu uses locally sourced ingredients? Brunch is a highlight, and there’s a special package where you can take your drinks, glassware and a blanket to the beach to watch sunset with the sand between your toes. Make a night of it and stay at the stunning Gallivant hotel.</p>

<p>A relatively new addition to the Sussex seaside, this stylish free house near The Witterings &#8211; a close contender for most beautiful beach in the county &#8211; opened earlier this year. The menu mantra is ‘eat the seasons’ and the food is kept local and of course, delicious. <p>Fusion food takes on a new form here with seafood and meat enjoying the same level of attention. The bad news is, you may have to share, I know, I know. Most plates are designed for two to share as you’ll want to sample as much of the menu as you can.&nbsp;</p>
