Fishers Farm Park in Wisborough Green is celebrating World Book Day all day on Thu March 5, with storytelling sessions in the cosy Old Barn theatre and reduced entry for adults and kids after 3pm. Plus there’s the usual indoor and outdoor activities, rides, animal encounters, soft play, adventure play areas, bouncy pillows, trampolines, climbing walls and much more. Everybody is encouraged to come dressed as their favourite character and bring their favourite book.

Once school’s out, Waterstones in Haywards Heath is putting on a World Book Day tea party on Thu Mar 5. Head along still in costume for tea and treats for adults and kids. Meanwhile Waterstones in Horsham will host a storytelling workshop suitable for preschoolers upwards, where imaginations will run riot and little ones can create their very own adventures with the help of the on-hand team.

The literary fun continues over the weekend at National Trust properties all over the county. Petworth House will welcome local authors and illustrators Jane Porter (King Otter, The Boy Who Loved Everyone) and Helen Peters (Anna At War, the Jasmine Green series). Meanwhile Bateman’s at Burwash, Bodiam Castle and Uckfield’s Sheffield Park will all host events and activities including storytelling, quizzes and a children’s trail.
