<p>This year marks 35 years of Brighton and Hove Pride, and the festival’s celebrating in high style, as you’d expect. It was announced this week that none other than Paris Hilton will be headlining on 2 Aug. Already announced for 1 Aug are the legendary Diana Ross along with the likes of RuPaul and Jessie J. </p>

<p>Attention all errant bookworms! If there’s a chance you’re housing some of the 38,000 titles that have been borrowed from East Sussex libraries and never returned, this is your last chance to take advantage of Book Amnesty. Return the overdue volumes before <strong>31 Mar</strong> and your fines will be waived. They insist there’ll be no judgement, either, but you could always opt for an out-of-hours drop box drive-by just to be sure. </p>

<p>Exciting news from One Garden Brighton, where the Palm House has been closed for refurbishment for a while now. Turns out they’ve an extra good reason for taking their time: it’s being transformed into a butterfly house. </p>



<p>With its lofty glass curves, the structure looks  Victorian but was in fact built in 1952 for Brighton &amp; Hove Council. Since then, it’s taken on various roles, including an exhibition space, fashion show backdrop, and set for an edition of Newsnight. Photographers have shot bands there and a theatre piece was created especially for it. Most recently, it’s been used as an unheated palm house by Plumpton College. </p>



<p>This new project promises to be its most vibrant yet, and word is it’ll be hatching this spring. We’ll be donning our safari suit (safari chic is very 2026, don’t you know?) and back with an update asap. </p>

<p>You may need reminding as you dodge the hail showers billowing in on Arctic gusts but we are officially in spring. Blossom’s in bloom, the days are lengthening and – the definitive proof – our favourite fair-weather cafes are reopening. </p>



<p>This week saw sandwiches, cakes, and welcome mugs of warming drinks being served once again at The Hatch in Lewes’ Southover Grange. Also, The Hub in Bodiam, where you’ll find everything from Eggs Benny to salads, loaded jacket spuds and high teas (including a Tiddlers option). </p>



<p>Next week it’s the turn of the Stable Kitchen at Pitfield Barn near Hurstpierpoint, and Salt Café with its harbour views (and Salt Fizz cocktails!) in East Preston, with plenty more to come. </p>

<p>We announced last year that Lindfield would be one of our Best Places to Live in 2026, so it’s good to see The Times has taken note, naming the picture-perfect West Sussex village its top place to live in the whole of the Southeast. </p>



<p>East Sussex’s Rye, one of our top picks from 2025, also had reason to celebrate this week, making it onto World Atlas’ list of the 8 Most Breathtaking Towns in England. We’ve long loved its special blend of quaint charm and mystery-steeped history, so it’s no surprise that Mermaid Street has been declared one of the country’s most beautiful. </p>
