<p>Quite possibly one of the coolest galleries in Brighton (complete with cocktail bar and space to work on laptops) Helm Gallery has a new exhibition to coincide with Pride. This collection is a celebration of LGBTQ+ culture through the lens of Greg Bailey and his vibrant photography. It explores the symbolic role of lavender in queer history and gives underrepresented voices a platform. </p>

<p>One of the most attractive spots in the local skyline around Lancing and Worthing, is <a href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/lancing-college/">Lancing College Chapel</a> that is well worth a visit and there&#8217;s no time like the present, especially while the kids break for summer! It was founded in 1868 and famed for its Gothic Revival architecture and it&#8217;s even classified as a Grade I Listed national monument. So it&#8217;s well worth seeing a piece of our heritage. But that&#8217;s not all, it&#8217;s the largest school chapel in the world, one of the stained-glassed windows was consecrated by Desmond Tutu in 2007, and the altar tapestries were woven on William Morris looms. How&#8217;s that for some serious history? </p>

<p>After their show Lexicon, was a sell out success at the Brighton Fringe in 2018 &#8211; circus company NoFitState &#8211; are making their long-awaited comeback to the city this summer. The award winners are returning with their adults only show, Sabotage with breath-taking skills, stunning imagery and live music. The concept of this show focus on rebels who go against the rules and prejudices of society, creating a space where there’s no injustice and anything is possible.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When an exhibition is awarded five stars by The Guardian you know you’ll be onto a good thing! While Britain may have been a little late onto the Surrealist scene in terms of the rest of the art world, our impact on it has certainly held. In May, Leonaroa Carrington made history after her <em>Les Distractions de Dagobert</em>&nbsp;(1945) was sold at Sotheby’s in New York for $28.5m making her the most (financially) successful artist in UK history. Wowzers. See what all the fuss is about in this exhibition detailing her work over eight decades.</p>

<p>Kids can take part in the fun at Chichester International Film Festival with a series of screenings in the park. The event also raises money for Stonepillow charity, which helps prevent homelessness.</p>

You can wander around hunting out the 30 unique owls brightening up the surroundings and getting you exploring and engaging as a family. Just don’t tell them that the trail is educational, but between us, it is. The Big Hoot also has hard copies of maps available, so kids can treasure hunt their way around. Or, for the more tech-focused, there’ll be an app you can download to assist you with locating each piece of art. There’s also the chance to win prizes.</p>

After that you can head to the flower Picking Patch and walk through the towering sunflowers and pick your own bunch for just £5.</p>

<p>Book now to avoid disappointment for next month where you can charge into this medieval festival that has a fierce focus on jousting. It’s effectively like stepping into an episode of <em>Game of Thrones</em> world. The event is for everyone and is fully immersive with reenactments, banquets, and workshops including how to make ancient bling in an armour-inspired chain metal class. There’s all the usual sporting culprits you’d expect, think archery, sword fighting et al as well as more creative activities including blacksmithing. But it’s not all action, (thankfully) you can take the weight off while listening to live music in the form of medieval ballads.</p>

<p>In celebration of the release of the new feature film on artist and photographer, Lee Miller, Muddy Award finalist, The Star is serving up a Friday night dinner hosted by her granddaughter, Ami Bouhassane, the Director of Farleys House &amp; Gallery where she lived for 35 years. The menu will perfectly complement the surrealist, with each dish taken from Ami’s cookbook, <em>Lee Miller; A life with food, friends and recipes</em>, that includes her grandmother’s extraordinary recipes.</p>
