<p>It’s important first to note that Cuckfield is pronounced cook not cuck field, a matter of local pride for the 3,000 people who reside in this charming village. It’s all about location, location, location here, it’s at the foot of the High Weald putting it halfway between the coast and the capital. It’s also close enough to Haywards Heath for all the transport links you need. Despite it’s prime spot, the village’s architecture has stayed true to its roots with medieval structures still present in lots of properties most of which house indie shops and restaurants.</p>

<p><a href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/borde-hill-garden/">Borde Hill</a> garden takes some beating, the 200-acre estate has been named one of the UK&#8217;s best by <em>Country Life </em>with woodland walks et al. For some history, you can take to <a href="https://cuckfieldmuseum.org/">Cuckfield Museum</a> that celebrates local history and has a feature about the dinosaur bones found on the outskirts of the village.  The National Trust’s <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/sussex/nymans" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nymans</a> is 10 mins away in the car and is stunning whatever the weather.&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="https://cuckfieldmusicfest.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cuckfield Music Fest</a> takes place in June and this year,&nbsp;BBC Young Musician of the Year 2018 Toril Azzalini-Machecler performed. The local churches and community centre play host to certain performances too.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For independents, the famed <a href="https://www.ardingly.com/">Ardingly College</a> which has a top 50 A Level and top 10 IB rating UK-wide, is well within reach, as is <a href="https://www.handcrossparkschool.co.uk/">Handcross Park</a> prep. <a href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/hurstpierpoint-college-hurstpierpoint/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hurstpierpoint</a> is a selective co-ed all-through school&nbsp;with an incredible reputation.&nbsp;<a href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/review-cumnor-house-sussex/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cumnor House</a> in Danehill (between Haywards Heath and East Grinstead) is a day and flexi-boarding prep school with excellent academics.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>The village is also admired for it’s mischievous side, in 1965, locals set up the charity, the Independent State of Cuckfield as a protest against the council’s decision to end their donkey grand national. Their sole focus is to fundraise for local causes, one of their methods is to host a mayoral election that costs 1p to vote and you can do so as often as you like helping to boost their charity’s fund.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Haywards Heath has excellent links up to London or down to the coast. It&#8217;s just 2 miles away – many walk or cycle and you can get to London Victoria in under 1 hr and London Bridge even quicker. Brighton and Gatwick are a 15 min train journey.&nbsp;</p>
