<p>Once upon a time, if you were heading South, Brighton was the place to be. But not anymore. Hove&#8217;s popularity – quite rightly – exploded during the pandemic and has seen an influx of stylish Londoners move to be by the sea. Hove has upped its game accordingly, with café culture going strong, as well as the right balance of pubs and bars with great places for food. It&#8217;s become Brighton&#8217;s grown-up, classy, ultra chic neighbour has come into its own in recent years because it has all the best parts of living in a vibrant, exciting, cultural city by the sea, without the drawbacks. </p>

<p>There&#8217;s a superb, chic, foodie scene evolving in Hove. Neighbourhood bistro <a aria-label="Wild Flor (opens in a new tab)" href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/wild-flor/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wild Flor</a>, on super-desirable Church Road, serves up classic cooking and a world-class wine cellar. Further along you&#8217;ll also find fine dining hotspot <a aria-label="etch. (opens in a new tab)" href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/etch-hove/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">etch.</a> from <em>Masterchef: The Professionals</em> winner Stephen Edwards. <a aria-label="Hove Place (opens in a new tab)" href="http://hoveplace.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hove Place</a> has a great garden and serves up bistro food. <a href="https://market-restaurantbar.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Market</a> is hands down the best place to eat in Hove. Wine bar <a href="https://www.fourthandchurch.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fourth &amp; Church</a> is popular with well-heeled second home owners on the weekends. The main food focal point is <a href="https://rockwater.uk/">Rockwater</a> with a casual beach deck for coffees, a terrace for wine and food, indoor restaurant with fire pits and sofas as well as a ski-style lodge.</p>



<p>Prefer something more casual? <a aria-label="The Ginger Pig Pub (opens in a new tab)" href="https://thegingerpigpub.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Ginger Pig Pub</a> with rooms serves traditional food sourced from Sussex’s finest suppliers or the upmarket <a aria-label="Oeuf Cafe (opens in a new tab)" href="https://oeuf.cafe/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oeuf Cafe</a> is ideal for Instagram pictures and serves up one of the best brunches. Out back is a cute secret garden, or sit on the terrace and watch the world go by. For pancakes, it has to be <a aria-label="Jo &amp; Co (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.joandcorestaurants.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jo &amp; Co</a>, and if you or the other half are cycling fans, <a aria-label="Porteur Cafe  (opens in a new tab)" href="https://porteur.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Porteur Cafe </a>will become a second home. The only choice for cocktails is <a href="https://theplottingparlour.uk/hove/">The Plotting Parlour</a>. </p>

All your fashion and lifestyle shopping needs will be met at <a href="https://www.velvetstore.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Velvet</a> on Church Road.  Plus you&#8217;re a stone&#8217;s throw from Brighton, seething with high street and indie shops as well as cute and quirky seaside sellers. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p><a href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/natural-fit-hove/">Natural Fit</a>&nbsp;is a high end health club with a holistic approach to wellbeing offering a retreat from reality with a gym, studio, a café, work space and best of all, a large spa &#8211; very rare in the city! There&#8217;s a selection of boutique gyms including <a href="https://roxlife.co.uk/">Rox</a> for spin, yoga and boxing, as well as spin studio, <a href="https://www.onecityfitness.co.uk/">One City</a> by Hove station. You&#8217;ll need to jump in the car to the larger gyms, <a href="https://www.adapt-fitness.com/">Adapt Fitness</a>, <a href="https://www.underground-gym.com/">Underground</a> or <a href="https://www.davidlloyd.co.uk/clubs/brighton/">David Lloyd</a>.  <a href="https://www.thefloatspa.co.uk/">The Float Spa</a> has just moved location to a larger more central spot to drift away in they also offer yoga classes. <a href="https://www.hovespa.com/">Body Base</a> is the go-to for massages but you&#8217;ll be spoilt for choice with nail bars, beauticians next to the abundance of coffee shops. Health wise, there is a large number of NHS GP practices, NHS dentists, harder to come by, but there&#8217;s a large choice of private dominating Church Road. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>You&#8217;ll never be short of things to do and groups to join here, but wild swimming is a serious sport in Hove and you can be a true local and join <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/485834978128573/?locale=en_GB">Hove Sea Swimmers</a>. <a href="https://platf9rm.com/location/hove-town-hall/">Platform 9</a> is a co-working space in the old town hall who also host events and mixers. <a href="https://rockwater.uk/hove/open-water/">Rockwater</a> have a members club and host events from painting to beach yoga which are always social. Hove is essentially a little hamlet in the city of Brighton, and you&#8217;ll find friendly folk be it in the queue for a coffee or on a sea front dog walk &#8211; by Hove lagoon you can take the lead off and make friends (four legged and two). </p>

<p>Family-friendly <a aria-label="Hove Museum &amp; Art Gallery (opens in a new tab)" href="https://brightonmuseums.org.uk/hove/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hove Museum &amp; Art Gallery</a> boasts one of the finest craft collections in the UK, along with a display of vintage toys up in the Wizard&#8217;s Attic. Water sports fans can make the most of the coastal location at <a aria-label="Hove Lagoon (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.lagoon.co.uk/hove-lagoon-watersports-centre/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hove Lagoon</a>, one of the best water sports centres in the country offering sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding and wakeboarding (skateboarding on water) for adults and kids. But perhaps the biggest and best attraction in Hove is the beach itself, calm and quiet.</p>

<p>A premium postcode doesn&#8217;t come cheap. Overall average house prices comes in at £560,419&nbsp;&#8211; with the majority of properties sold being flats for £369,267. Terraced homes sold for £736,398, with semis at £820,276.</p>

<p>Plenty of the state primaries have been deemed Good by Ofsted, including West Blatchington Primary, Brunswick Primary and St Andrew&#8217;s C of E Primary. West Hove Infant and Hangleton Primary are both Outstanding. State secondary Blatchington Mill is another Good, and Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form on Dyke Road is Outstanding. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>The first of the multitude of Hove residents to reply &#8216;Hove, actually&#8217; in a mock-affronted tone when asked if they live in Brighton was none other than legendary thesp Laurence Olivier. In the 1990s, Hove council used the slogan to attract tourism to the town, before joining forces with Brighton.</p>

<p>You can get to London Victoria in 66 mins at peak time. An annual season ticket will set you back around £4,700.</p>
