<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>River Rother, near Robertsbridge</strong></h2>



<p>Lazier ladies apply here! There is no current along the locked Scot’s Sluice part of the River Rother so you can peacefully drift along setting off from <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://bodiamboatingstation.co.uk/" target="_blank">Bodiam Boating station</a> where you can hire a SUP. Then gently meander though the High Weald towards the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/days-out/family-days-out-picnic-bodiam-castle-east-sussex/" target="_blank">National Trust’s 14th century Bodiam Castle</a>. This is a Muddy favourite where you can add in some culture with your sport. Word to the wise, when it’s windy, paddling will be a bit more of a challenge, obvs.<br></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Ardingly Reservoir, near Haywards Heath</strong></h2>



<p>This is a safer spot for families and mixed abilities nestled in the High Weald which means you’re highly likely to see herons and kingfishers while you paddle. We can’t guarantee you won’t fall in, (is there anyone who hasn&#8217;t?) but we can guarantee you’ll have an easier paddle than on the sea. <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Cuckmere Meanders, Seven Sisters</strong></h2>



<p>The striking white cliffs are the dream backdrop for SUP and you will be anything but bored at this location, we promise! At the park’s entrance before you get to Cuckmere Haven beach there is a locked part of the Cuckmere River where beginners can practice and families can explore. If you paddle inland, along the same river, you’ll sail under bridges and see grazing cattle and lots of other wildlife. Make sure you stop at the village of Alfriston &#8211; where one of Muddy’s top choices for a weekend getaway, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/travel/hotels-inns/alex-polizzi-star-inn-alfriston-east-sussex-review/" target="_blank">The Star</a> is.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Pagham Lagoon, near Bognor Regis</strong></h2>



<p>Ideal for beginners, flat cruising is possibly the only option here, perfect if you had one too many glasses of wine the previous night. You can paddle towards Selsey beach &#8211; close to where Muddy favourite,<a href="https://sussex.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/the-old-piggery-farm-shop-and-tea-room-chichester/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> The Old Piggery Tea Room</a> is, or head West into Bognor. For confident SUP-ers Pagham Harbour is a equally picturesque, and you can hire boards at <a href="https://caveactive.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cave Active Adventures</a>. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Bosham Salt Flats, Chichester</strong></h2>



<p>Float your way along the coastal wilderness of these salt flats flanked by adorable villages and architecture, reeds and wildlife. Here you&#8217;ll have enough room to fall, errr, we mean, jump, off and swim around as a group &#8211; just don’t&nbsp; stray too far from your board or you’ll have a long swim to get it! Also worth checking out are Chichester Canal and Harbour. <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Pevensey Bay, near Eastbourne</strong></h2>



<p>Eastbourne is the Mecca of paddle boarding with endless spots in which to sail the day away.  Pevensey Bay has a sandy beach at low tide and shingle at high tide. The beauty here, is that it’s much quieter than other beaches in Sussex so you can enjoy your time in relative tranquility. And don&#8217;t forget to stop by the medieval <a href="https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/pevensey-castle/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pevensey Castle</a> afterwards.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>River Arun, Pulborough</strong></h2>



<p>Time to take the scenic route! This one snakes around West Sussex and will keep you on, or perhaps, off, your toes. Fallen trees mean you’ll need to lie down to pass under them and you&#8217;ll be sharing the space with the local swans. <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>River Ouse, Lower Breeding</strong></h2>



<p>This route will require a little prep (not just snacks, sorry) but check tide times as the river is tidal and be extra aware if you’re launching onto the water at Southease, Piddinghoe or Lewes and taking the route to Newhaven. Upstream options are best started from Barcombe and while the water is calm, you’ll still get a workout as the course can at times become overgrown but it makes for a wild adventure towards Isfield Weir.&nbsp;</p>
