Where to get the best hot chocolate in Sussex

We've gorged ourselves silly on the 10 best hot chocolates in Sussex all in the name of research. Thank god for lycra.

Goatledge

You should cocoa! If you’ve ditched the diet already we hear you. In this weather we all need any excuse to warm up, and there’s nothing better than an indulgent sweet drink to give you a glow (and *ahem* a massive sugar hit). So we’ve rounded up some of our favourite hang-outs, cafes and takeaways in Sussex to pick up your fix of the hot stuff.

Goatledge, Lower Prom, St Leonards

The main cafe is closed until spring, but you can pick up scrummy waffles and a selection of hot drinks from their takeaway Baby Goat 10-4 every day. Hopefully they will be able to do one of their hot choc specials including White Russian and Turbo (alcoholic hurray!), Chocolate Orange and Nutella.

Tom’s Food, Cuckfield

Tom’s Food

We love this quirky cafe in Cuckfield which offers amazing banana bread alongside Deluxe Dark & White hot chocolates and kids chocolate milk.

Knoops, Brighton & Rye

Knoops

Knoops founder Jens began sharing his passion for hot chocolate in 2013 when he opened the first branch in Rye, and they have now expanded their gourmet operation to stores across the UK including Oxford and London. Knoopologists (oo-er) expertly craft your perfect drink choosing from 20 different % chocolates, with many vegan and plant-based milks to choose from. The more adventurous might like to try some of their unusual options like salt, pepper, dry spices, herbs, fruits, and roots.

Cafe No4, Horsham

This chic yet cosy cafe in Horsham is the perfect pit-stop to warm up. With a changing menu to include locally sourced bakes and home made treats to go alongside great coffee and hot chocolates with specials including chocolate orange and Baileys (dangerous!).

Hotel Chocolat, takeaways at Brighton & Eastbourne

We already know and love the goodies at Hotel Chocolat, but did you know some of their branches offer takeaway hot drinks and ice-creams? Decadent flavours including Mint, Ginger and White Chocolate. Choices choices!

Hart Country Stores, Haywards Heath

Hart

This lovely farm and coffee shop is one of Muddy’s regular meeting spots and we can personally vouch for the sinfully good toasted marshmallow hot chocolate and brownies served here (tough job but somebodies got to do it).

Chococo, Horsham

Chococo Chocolate House in Horsham

This independent artisan chocolate brand is crafted in Dorset but has 4 cafes including this gem in Horsham. Pop in to browse their award-winning fine chocolates or grab a seat and enjoy a single origin hot chocolate, with cakes & freshly made toasties or scones.

East Beach Cafe, Littlehampton

East Beach Cafe

Located right on the beachfront with spectacular views of the sea, the iconic design of the East Beach Cafe is always all over the ‘Gram. It serves uncomplicated food including seaside favourites and indulgent puddings. When the weathers good sit on the terrace or grab a takeaway from the Kiosk which serves hot chocolate with syrups, creams and the obligatory marshmallows.

Stanmer Tea Rooms, Stanmer

Stanmer’s deluxe hot chocolate

Hidden away close to the park this easy to miss cafe has a secret Alice In Wonderland Tea Room inside. But as well as afternoon tea it also offers a mean hot chocolate. Don’t be fooled by it’s understated exterior, there is some serious quality baking here including major scones – believe us they don’t scrimp on the cream.

Kaya in the Park, Horsham

Kaya

This cool cafe set in an old stable block is total Insta-fodder and their hot chocolate with toppings including biscoff biscuits and flakes pretty much have their own following!
