<p>Hunt for your perfect pumpkin amid&#8230; Christmas trees? That&#8217;s how they roll at Goddenwick, where a second patch is to be found at the end of an appropriately spooky trail. Also on offer this year: a haunted and genuinely creepy looking double-decker bus, pumpkin bowling and autumn specials on the menu at Roost Cafe. Head over at the weekend for hotdogs and loaded fries at the Halloweenie Van, while Saturdays mean Hauntoberfest (that&#8217;s tap beers and live music). Ends 31 Oct, the pumpkin patch and trail are free with booking recommended, and a Spooky Play Pass, with entry to that bus and other frightful attractions can be had for £5 per child. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s fair to say that nobody does Halloween quite this West Sussex farm. A Pumpkin Village runs to street food (watch out, fresh doughnuts are on the menu), cocktails at the Boozy Cauldron, and fireside toasted marshmallows.  Roaming musicians will keep you entertained as you explore, and don&#8217;t be alarmed by the playful Pumpkin Folk, tasked with creating photo-worthy moments. For a bit of calm and a breathtaking view of – wait for it – over a million pumpkins spread out across 100 acres, hop aboard the Observation Wheel. Added magic – and moonlight, with clear skies – can be had at Pumpkin Night. It runs on selected dates until 31 Oct and tickets start at £8pp, just be sure to book. </p>

<p>This small family business managed to offer a smashing 19 different varieties of squash and pumpkins last year, and they&#8217;ve found some great new varieties to try for 2025. Things were looking promising over the summer so it should be a bumper crop. Entry is free and opening weekend is 4–5 Oct. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s been a bumper crop down at another family-run farm, this one spread across 15 acres. The pumpkins are the undoubted stars here and sustainability&#8217;s a key concern, with any unsold produce donated to local soup kitchens, used as animal feed or broken down to use on their fields and boost soil health. Entrance and plentiful parking are free, with tractor rides, a crafts are in the marquee, and food and drink also available. 25–31 Oct. </p>

<p>You might know this dairy farm for its handmade gelato but as well as summer licks it&#8217;s offering autumn kicks by way of its very own pumpkin patch, open on selected dates (including the whole of half term, handily) from 11 Oct–2 Nov. Paid entry (£5pp) includes one medium-sized pumpkin. After you&#8217;ve chosen, stick around for a tractor ride, with a pumpkin spiced latte (&#8217;tis the season, after all) or maybe even a scoop as your reward before heading home to get carving. You can even enter the finished result in their socials comp! </p>

<p>This East Sussex farm has a 300-year history of growing hops but they know a thing or two about pumpkins, too, planting on an all-weather wood chip patch. Fancy dress is encouraged, and you can also enjoy a scarecrow trail and spooky hedge maze. Need another reason to visit? <p>Billed as the UK&#8217;s original pumpkin patch, Rogate sits right on the Hampshire and West Sussex border, and its autumn offering has definitely evolved since those early days. Immersive is the best word for the spooky thrills that await the whole family from 17 Oct–2 Nov, including themed playhouses, the Bubble Witch and, for the tiniest of visitors, calmer spaces providing the cutest of photo opps for your own little pumpkin (professional photographers will be onsite if you doubt your own skills). Don&#8217;t forget to leave with an actual pumpkin though. Eyes bigger than your biceps? Wheelbarrows are at the ready! Tickets £9pp (pumpkin not included). </p>

<p>Keep it authentically rustic and head to Cricketing Bottom (yes, you read that right), where you&#8217;ll find this wonderful working farm nestled along the South Downs Way. Multiple varieties mean pumpkins and squashes in all shades and sizes, priced from just £1. There&#8217;s free parking to boot, and dogs are welcome on a lead. Bring wellies if it&#8217;s been wet as the field can get muddy! Keep an eye on the farm&#8217;s website for 2025&#8217;s dates, but once they get going, they&#8217;re open daily from 10am to 4pm, and they do sell out so don&#8217;t leave it too late. Also on their website? Some cracking recipes. Pumpkins: not just for Halloween! Or indeed decoration. </p>

Also in abundance, seasonal atmosphere and opportunities for photos you&#8217;ll want to actually get printed. Say &#8220;Halloweeeeeen&#8221;! Open for three consecutive weekends beginning 4 Oct. </p>
