<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-lowdown"><strong>THE LOWDOWN</strong></h2>



<p>The fact there’s a ‘spa garden’ pretty much won Muddy over before even a pedicured toe dipped into the pools at Utopia Spa. Add in multiple awards &#8211; including a shiny Muddy Stilettos win &#8211; and it’s clear that this place has serious credentials. Tucked inside the five-star Alexander House in Turners Hill, (just a stone’s throw from East Grinstead), Utopia Spa is all about indulgence. It offers a variety of day packages with top-notch treatment options, lunch or afternoon tea and full access to all the goodies &#8211; including the bubble pool and Grecian-style indoor baths.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Depending on your package, you can linger at the spa until 8pm, which, naturally is exactly what Muddy did. If you can swing it on a summer’s evening, do. The golden hour glow, bubbles in hand, yes please. Whether you’re popping in for a glam girls’ day, or a solo reset, it ticks all the boxes &#8211; treatments, chill time, and wine delivered straight to your sunbed. Need we say more? </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe"><strong>THE VIBE</strong></h2>



<p>Utopia Spa is in the modern wing of the historic Jacobean manor, surrounded by 120 acres of greenery lush countryside. Every detail is geared towards luxe with a capital L &#8211; and no, you don’t need to be an overnight guest to soak it up. Day spa visitors are treated like VIPs from the moment they waft through the door. As Muddy pulled into the carpark, windswept and overheated on hottest day of the year, only to be greeted by the sight of a helipad in the hotel grounds, I knew I was home. Ahem. Well, in my dreams anyway.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Walking into to the manor building you take a right and the spa is there, exuding calm, soft tones and gentle fountains – think Balinese vibes without the&nbsp;clichés&nbsp;&#8211; no Buddha statues here, thankfully. A lovely warm gentle welcome awaits, along with a robe, towel and a chance to pre-order lunch &#8211; because nobody’s at their best when hangry. Next up, I’m offered a quick tour, and if you’re new here, I’d recommend it. Top tip: bring flip flops or disposable slippers for pottering out to the spa garden.</p>



<p>Surprisingly, laptops are allowed in the outdoor areas. The jury is out on this one, but no one was making noisy calls, and it was a lovely way to send emails. Hey, if you’ve got to work, this is how to do it.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-facilities"><strong>FACILITIES</strong></h2>



<p>This is where you are spoilt. It’s a large spa with more than enough space to accommodate guests without ever feeling crowded. As Muddy may have mentioned, I’m a fan of the spa garden &#8211; it’s got an outdoor bubble pool, perfect for sipping fizz, (Muddy has sat there many a time chatting to other guests, as well as floating around solo). There’s also a barrel sauna with ice cool showers &#8211; it was too hot on Muddy&#8217;s visit, but it is lovely in there. On a romantic break? Definitely book the private hot tub area. Otherwise, nab a sunbed or one of the larger sofas to relax on with a magazine or your bestie next to you for a gossip.</p>



<p>Inside, there’s a petite sauna and steam room in the changing rooms (I had this to myself), plus three Grecian-style pools with low lighting and plenty of seating which I imagine is welcome in the winter months. There are strong jets too, which really helped ease away my gym-induced tension and a pool long enough for proper lengths.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The roomy showers are stocked with L&#8217;Occitane products (yes please), and while the towels are a little on the thin side, the vanity stations more than make up for it &#8211; think hair straighteners, cotton wool and all the bits you didn’t realise you needed.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-treatments"><strong>TREATMENTS</strong></h2>



<p>Muddy’s spa day included a deliciously indulgent 55-minute treatment. While the spa’s signature treatment is the OSKIA signature glow facial, Muddy opted for a massage due to a recent bout of stress-induced acne. It was zero bother for therapist Molly &#8211; she happily amended the treatment to a signature massage for me.</p>



<p>So with that, it was face down onto the heated bed. This was heaven. Really thick, soft towels and the ideal temperature. The massage began with a warm towel on my feet (always a good sign), then focused on my back, shoulders and forearms – perfect for releasing the tension from one too many gym sessions and laptop marathons. I asked for strong and strong I got. Using Temple Spa products Molly worked her magic. At one point, I started to get very cold, as the tension and emotion I was holding onto left my body. I often shed tears in a massage or get very cold which I take as a sign the massage has worked. Now loosened up and blissed out, it was back on with my robe and off to&nbsp;lunch. Talk about a smooth transition.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Muddy’s plus-one went for the “All About the Glow” facial &#8211; a radiance-boosting treat that left her looking positively lit from within. Safe to say, that’s on the list for next time.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff"><strong>SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</strong></h2>



<p>At the Utopia Spa you can opt for either afternoon tea or lunch, we went with lunch (which was a smart move in the heat). Robes are the dress code, even in the Reflections Restaurant, so it’s all very relaxed. We grabbed a sunny courtyard spot with views of the beautiful Jacobean building &#8211; though there’s plenty of shade too.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Food-wise, I tucked into a starter or Somerset brie mousse and heritage tomatoes with a pistachio and red pesto praline, this was fresh, light and seriously yummy. Muddy’s plus one opted for the seabass ceviche which she devoured, but I did manage to steal a bite and can confirm it was just as delicious as it looked.&nbsp;</p>



<p>For mains, Muddy went for the pan-fried salmon &#8211; crisp on the outside, tender in the middle, paired with seasonal veg and a light sauce that didn’t steal the spotlight. Her plus-one chose the summer salad: fresh, punchy and full of colour, with just the right zing for a sunny-day lunch. </p>

<p>After that, it was time for a caffeine hit and a quick laptop session but even mid-emails the staff kept checking in, which is very much in keeping with the slick five-star service here.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Good for</strong>: Girlie spa days, an indulgent trip for yourself, a mum and daughter bonding day out as well or romantic getaways.&nbsp;</p>



<p><strong>Not for</strong>: Anyone who doesn’t love a chilled spa day (we’re not sure we can be friends with you)! Family with young children &#8211; it’s strictly over 18s here so you’ll have to leave the kids with the grandparents. <br></p>
