<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-lowdown"><strong>THE LOWDOWN</strong></h2>



<p>Muddy wasn’t sure No. 124 Brighton, by GuestHouse could get any better, it pretty much ticks every luxury box Brighton has been crying out for. But, luckily for us all, its outdone itself by opening Field Trip Spa &#8211; a petite piece of calm with seemingly no expense spared. Just how we like it! For a central hotel right on the seafront, the serene space carved out for the spa is pretty impressive. Like a tranquil Tardis! There are five treatment rooms, two doubles and an accessible room. They’ve even managed to factor in a small decorative garden as well as a relaxation room, (you can just leave me there) although I could well be coaxed out by the offer of a glass of English Sparkling while floating around in the copper bath tub which is what my treatment involved.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe"><strong>THE VIBE</strong></h2>



<p>The spa is hidden away from the rest of the hotel’s chic offerings (winter garden, terrace by the sea, inviting bar and gorgeous restaurant) meaning you cross a threshold when you head to reception, the energy is on point. Helped along by the huge windows letting in lots of light and the little garden complete with 150 year old olive tree. I do wonder how, for a city spa I am instantly so relaxed. It could well be the energy of the therapist on reception or the gorgeous desk complete with water feature or the natural earthy tones. Who knows, I am certainly not complaining that I finally feel calm. And I know the difference, because I was only at a spa four days before I get to Field Trip (I know, who am I?) And the difference in my mood when I walk in here, is considerable. I can’t wait to have my treatment!&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-facilities"><strong>FACILITIES</strong></h2>



<p>It’s a city spa in a Regency&nbsp;building (beautiful, eh?) so there’s not space for a pool, steam or sauna, but it really doesn’t need it. If you want to float about, you can choose a treatment with the copper bath &#8211; which is exactly what Muddy did &#8211; and indulge in what makes this spa so special: excellent treatments in a gorgeous space. To help get fully in the stress-free mood, no time is wasted in taking me into the relaxation room as I collapse onto the sofa and am offered a juice devised with local health influencer, Donna Bartoli, and I choose the carrot, ginger and orange option in a bid to try to get a glass skin look, or as close to. I’m left alone to drift back into the sofa and absorb the peace. Although I have to fill out the pre-treatment form, with questions that actually matter, I don’t think I’ve ever been asked in so much detail about how I want to feel after a treatment. I get the idea that Field Trip takes the holistic approach and is happy adapting treatments to suit you, your needs, or in my case, my stress levels. Bring it on.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-treatments"><strong>TREATMENTS</strong></h2>



<p>The spa’s signature treatment is, Copper Cove, a 90 minute treatment for two with a copper bath before a bespoke massage and relaxing facial with a glass of fizz while you float around together. If you’re on a romantic break or want to spend some quality time with your other half, this is a must-do. However, I’m not really one to share the rather precious down time with anyone other than me myself and I so I indulged (and why shouldn’t I) solo. Ahead of the treatment I explained I was battling a skin flare up &#8211; chronic stress can take the credit for that &#8211; so the lovely therapist adapted the massage to focus more on my legs and feet in place of a facial.</p>



<p>The spa uses organic, vegan and sustainably sourced oils and essences for what I’ve now learnt is called an eco-luxury experience. Nice. I’m shown up to the treatment room and wow, it’s way bigger than I imagined, in fact it’s huge. I’m given a robe and slippers should I want to leave the room, nice try though. I’m not leaving unless forced / my treatment time is up. My therapist talks me though the treatment but I’m told to take my time in the bath &#8211; you don’t need to ask me twice and she promises to return to let me know when it’s massage o’clock.</p>

<p>Left alone to my own devices I get my priorities straight &#8211; locate my glass of Chapel Down and get into my swimsuit before heading through a little curtain into the bath area. It feels quite middle eastern and I love it. I play with the tray of Epsom salts, Himalayan rose body scrub and aromatherapy oils and get into the circular bath. I gently go round in circles as the water moves me and with it starts to shift away some stress. Sadly, it goes quicker than you’d think but it’s a wise way to behave before you fully allow yourself to drift off into a massage.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Dried and changed into my knickers I get face down onto the bed and things start with a soothing back massage. Without having to direct anything, my therapist knows where the sweet spots are between my shoulders and starts to work her magic. The massage doesn’t touch the arms and legs, this is about your back and she locates pockets of stress by my ribcages and helps soothe them away with massage. After that I turn over for a wild peppermint for scrub followed by a massage finished with foot balm. She then gets to work on my neck, shoulders and décolletage. I’m drifting off gently in that lovely space between sleep and consciousness and I start to dream.</p>



<p>Then, just when I worry it’s over I get a gorgeous scalp massage, without doubt the best part of this treatment. The pressure was perfect and I could have slept there the rest of the day. Sadly, all good things come to an end but the spa is very much focused on after care. We have a chat about the right products for me as well as herbs and oils and even a playlist of the music that helped create the ambience. A little check into the mirror after and I have to say, I was glowing.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff"><strong>SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</strong></h2>



<p>I had to take a minute before heading to lunch. I was so relaxed, I wasn’t ready for a girlie gossip immediately. Testament to just how relaxed I felt. I said immediately though, I can always carve out plenty of time for wine with a girl friend. It was a wet and windy Brighton day so sadly lunch on the glam terrace was out, those sea views will have to save themselves for me, but we found a cosy spot at Pearly Cow.</p>



<p>It took us forever to choose from the impressive menu, but we settled with the standard: glass of English Sparkling and a load of sharing plates. Is there anything better? Pearly Cow pulls each dish off and we tucked into salted cod and lobster tacos, crisp quid, burrata with peas and local asparagus, a green salad (to include our five a day) and the obligatory fries. Delicious.</p>



<p>When the weather allows, seriously come on summer, the outdoor pizza oven is fired up and you can enjoy pizzettes but the lunch and terrace menu features a fantastic choice of seafood as well as sliders, larger plates and basically everything to please every personality and preference.</p>



<p>After lunch we headed upstairs for cocktails and then a tea, we are 40 plus after all! I felt totally revived and already looking at what treatment I want to return to at Field Trip Spa. &nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Couples on a romantic retreat, girl friends needing a glam stop off, a solo spa day after shopping in Brighton. This is a gorgeous space to really indulge</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Long weekend spa breaks, head to the countryside for those, this is a chic city spa for weekend breaks and locals looking for relaxation.&nbsp;</p>
